Leaders can have a powerful impact on the futures of many, and the way in which one approaches leadership is paramount to the type of impact one will have. Continual growth in the areas of knowledge I have and seek to acquire, as well as recognizing my leadership style and utilizing my personal strengths to the fullest, is vital to the successful implementation of my personal philosophy of leadership. Answering the question “‘Who are you?’ is where every leadership journey begins” (Kouzes & Posner, 2012, p. 43). My philosophy of leadership would be firmly rooted in compassion. It is my goal to create a learning environment that is supportive, fosters mutual respect and collaboration, and where students and staff feel safe and cared about. It is only when this type of environment is in place that I believe learning can take place to its fullest capacity. Through my completion of the survey for assessing natural leadership qualities, I was determined to be a creative assertive quality type (Glanz, 2002, p. 191-196). The characteristics listed on the high end of the creative assertive continuum are fitting to my personality (Glanz, 2002, p. 74). I am an emotional, sensitive, and caring person. I place extreme value on the presence of humanity in the world. Along with recognizing the importance of my students learning in many capacities, I believe we must educate the whole person by giving significant attention to the developing character of each individual child. It is my philosophy that by helping students to grow into critical thinkers that possess outstanding character, which includes demonstrating sensitivity and concern for others, that their lives will be rewarding as they contribute positively to the wor... ... middle of paper ... ...hey are doing, and these exchanges reinforce feelings that everyone is on the same team” (Kouzes & Posner, 2012, p. 63). Through acquiring additional experiences, while building upon my past ones, I intend to develop the outstanding leadership skills necessary to be successful. It is my belief that anyone with a desire to change the world would be fortunate to work in education. By sharing my vision with others, and building upon my skills while seeking constant growth, I strive to take an approach to leadership that fosters an effective, nurturing educational environment for the entire school community. By creating this type of environment, as well as through embracing and enhancing my leadership strengths, it is my goal to contribute to society by inspiring people to become better not only as teachers and students, but as compassionate human beings.
The qualities that make a good leader are as varied as the people that fill leadership roles. Some leaders aren’t overly dynamic but somehow get the best out of people while others appear to be too carefree to take seriously. What is it then that makes leaders who they are? A personal philosophy of leadership is that distinguishing trait that every leader possesses. What those leadership characteristics and behaviors are will be explored in the following text, along with what I believe is the best route for me to follow as I work on developing my own personal philosophy of leadership.
You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make him drink is a proverb I have heard since I was young. Leadership is the skill of influencing people to accomplish goals (Huber, 2014). In today’s world with policy and technological changes the leaders must use their leadership skills to not only get the horse to the water, have him drink, but also do it with a smile an invite others to join him. Leaders use a variety of styles to accomplish their goals. I will discuss the leadership style that I utilize most often, how my style relates to leadership theories and the work type environment it is most useful in.

Leadership is an important aspect of all businesses, especially the health care industry, and without good leadership, patient care and outcomes may be affected. Effective leaders and managers use various styles and theories and adapt these with consideration to the characteristics of their workers and of the environment. When people think of leadership so many things rush through their heads. For example am I a leader, am I apart of a group that has a leader, and what does being a leader mean? A common definition of being a leader is a person who leads or guides a group of people. So now knowing the definition of a leader who pops into your head; Phil Jackson, Mike Krzyzewski, Martin Luther King Jr.? All of these people are great leaders, but the real question is why are they so great? One very important thing that all these men have in common is they have a philosophy of leadership. This philosophy is going to help guide these men during turbulent times, or when they need guidance themselves. Nobody is perfect and everyone needs direction no matter how wise or gifted you are. I am no different, which is why writing this philosophy of leadership is going to be a fruitful experience for years to come.
A person’s title within the organization does not make them a leader. The driving factor which determines if someone is in a leader position is their behavior. This person who is a leader will guide those in the organization by influencing, guiding, giving direction, and opinions (Marquis & Huston, 2012). The culture as well as the climate of an organization begins with the leadership (Azaare & Gross, 2011). Each individual person has their own leadership style. Knowing one’s own leadership style will help them understand themselves and be able to grow as a leader. The purpose of this paper is to look at my own leadership style, including my strengths for leading others. A description of a potential challenge that I foresee due to my leadership style and a plan for my personal leadership development will be discussed.
Leadership is the glue that binds any business together, identifying and understanding your type of leadership style can ultimately aid you in becoming a better leader in your professional career. A successful business cannot function without leadership therefore this is a crucial aspect of internal employee development for businesses striving to stay relevant in a crowded marketplace. By becoming an informed business leader you will gain trust and respect of your team to guide them into the future and maximizing potential growth. Throughout this paper I will identify my leadership style and also personality type and how it has affected my personal career growth. Identifying these conclusions is extremely important in crafting company culture.

A leader must possess certain power or ability to hold a leadership position (Al-Sawai, 2013). There are several leadership styles identified over the years. Regardless of his leadership type, a leader must be able to influence his organization and be aware what motivates his team members, so that the goals can be accomplished.
We all can become effective leaders by becoming experts in our field, by working on our leadership skills such self- confidence, determination, ability to understand other people’s needs, emotions and goals, ability to motivate other people to achieve their full potential and more. The journey to great leadership is appearing more straightforward than ever before, and there is no deficiency of resources showing what is need to be improved to become a great leader. Through the completion of the Leadership Apptitude Quiz (Appendix A), my direct reports, immediate supervisor and my own self assessment confirmed that I have high leadership potential. Leadership ability has been defined by a series of traits and characteristics. Trait theory focuses on identifying innate qualities and characteristics of leaders (Barr & Dowding, 2013). The personal traits and characteristics of my leadership style are articulated through completing the Authentic Leadership Questionnaire (Appendix B), which indicates that I have strong authentic leadership in the areas of objective decision making, self awareness, self regulation and authenticity.
Leadership is trait that is extremely important in any society. Leadership is known as the way people attempting to make a difference in a situation. However, I believe that it is better said to be a way of influencing others actions. Leadership is usually connected to a great leader that affected his or her followers in a dynamic way. Throughout the semester for my leadership class, I have expanded the knowledge in numerous ways. I now have fully understanding of the purpose and process of leadership to a society. Being a leader one must maintain an image of being the role model. I believe that this is leader should be who is someone who has the ability to influence, encourage, listen, and nurture. They are able to inspire, stimulate, persuade, shape, and have an effect on others.
Many view leadership as an action or an event versus a method of interacting and engaging others on a daily basis. My personal leadership style as an outward demonstration of the values that I hold most dear. Being that my personal leadership style is a melding of the values of Spirituality, Family, Leadership, Learning, Trust, Responsibility and Accountability, leadership for me is who I am. I want to use who I am to develop and inspire others, establish long-lasting relationships, and be recognized, trusted and respected for my planning and decision making. My mission in life and in work is to make a difference in the lives of others by living, leading, caring and sharing. I will use every learning and experience in my Capella journey to build on the leadership skills I currently possess.
In order for leaders to be effective in various roles and changing environments in their personal lives and occupations, they must acquire knowledge of different styles and theories of leadership. "Debate is common about which leadership style is most effective. The answer, of course…it all depends" (Kohntopp, 2012). Through completing the leadership assessment to determine how personal characteristics categorize into Kent University’s leadership styles, and comparing the classification of these various styles as they pertain to personal experience, one can determine what characteristics to utilize dependent on specific scenarios. By implementing the C.O.A.T. theory of assessment, as well as the Transformational
