How persuasive can one be, how much power can one achieve with words? Successful leaders of different time periods and different categories possess the ability to use words effectively to lead through the power of persuasion. Whether in a Business, political, or religious leadership positions, successful leaders utilize and capitalize on the needs and wants of their followers through persuasive word choice High level persons are persuasive; they have to be. Powerful speakers such as Adolf Hitler, Martin Luther King, Jr., and President Barack Obama all have something in common; they all have spoken and appealed to mass audiences using similar speaking techniques. Many of the speaking techniques utilized by these highly influential people are similar to those used by sales representative who persuade their customers to buy their product.
Powerful leaders and speakers are like sales representatives. Leaders possess the ability to use words effectively through the power of persuasion because they utilize and capitalize on the needs and wants of their followers and use speaking techniques based on individuals’ needs for gratification, personalization, and newness.
Sales representatives use a variety of tactics to get you to buy their product. The main tactic used by sales representatives is “liking” we buy things from people we know or can relate to, so a sales representative will try to be the most likable person. Using personal stories that you can relate to in order for you to feel more comfortable with them. They also use another technique called “commitment” they promise you a deal, but it will only be good if you come back to them, just like politicians if you vote or support them. ...eate confidence and trust in the people who are their followers to have confidence in their leadership and a belief in the self-confidence of the leader. Aesop a famous Greek fabulist said, “Persuasion is often more effectual than force,” meaning that words are often more powerful than actions.
