The computer age is here to stay. Good or bad it can’t be reversed. We have to deal with the dangers it poses to society. One aspect of the technological age is the impact of computers and the internet on our children. Computers both improve and harm their education. How can society keep its children safe from the information highway? Computers are tools that help students learn. They are necessary in the evolution of the educational learning. There are dilemmas in the use of computers and the internet in classrooms. Children and youth become more vulnerable to dangerous websites and predators. Social media is the new age and poses threats to our children’s confidence. When children use computers at school they don’t always use them correctly; therefore, they are susceptible to numerous threats. There are some educators that aver that we already have the necessary tools our children need to learn. Attesting that computers are not needed to accomplish the tasks students face. Students have up-to-date textbooks and well educated teachers to help them develop. Past generations did not have computers to learn with. Society continues to regress. We strive for progress for progresses sake, but we never say the big picture. What harm will we cause in the lives of our children and the future generations? At home our children face more threats from new age technology. There are vast social networking abilities at our fingertips. We live in a world of tablets, smart phones, and wireless internet capabilities. Social networking site have been used for bullying, taunting, and predators. Today’s young people are not safe from each other online. These sites can cause teenagers to feel isolated and have led to teens suicides. When the first printing press was invented, it revolutionized the educational process by allowing mass production of books. The educational system had to be restructured from a master-apprentice relationship to a lecturer-student method. When the Industrial Revolution began and quickly concentrated mass population of cities. The educational system had to be revised from a collection of children studying in a single schoolhouse to an individualized system of teacher specialization. Now with the coming of the Computer Age, the learning process must be redefined. Yes it is not perfect but nothing new ever is. It takes time for people to learn and adjust to unforeseen dilemmas.
