I am interested in Project 5 about youth violence prevention. At the College of New Jersey (TCNJ), I found local non-profits and groups to work with and intern with due to my Women, Gender, and Sexuallity Studies minor. My interests in social justice and activism led me to take a Health Psychology class. In this class, we paired with a local nonprofit in Trenton, the Urban Mental
Health Alliance (UMHA), and did research in order to supply the organization with pamphlets on self-advocacy, youth health, local mental health resources, and stress management. This class was the first to show the connection between my passion for research and supporting non profit work. The work our class had in creating pamphlets is sustainable, for our information can be printed and distributed and edited over time if need be. We were able to use our skills as students, our privilege, to help community issues. My goals for the internship include enhancing my developing research skills. I continuously strive to improve my writing, communication, and analytical skills. In addition, I will learn more about youth violence and the work done at CHOP. I have an interest in research after being involved in psychology research labs at TCNJ and would apply my writing, analytical, and research skills that I have developed thus far to the internship. In addition, I would offer my passion for research, my curiosity, and work ethic. I was involved in a Psychodynamic research lab at the College of New Jersey.
