In the novel “Your Question for Author Here” by Kate DiCamillo and Jon Scieszka the type of conflict in this story is man vs man. The main conflict of this story is Joe Jones needs to get about a C- on his author project to not be grounded. He is having trouble getting the information because of his negative attitude. In the beginning of the story Joe Jones seems like he just wants to get this project over with and not put any effort into his writing. In the beginning of the story Joe says,” Aw come on. It’s bad enough I have to do this lame assignment ” (106). This shows how Joe really does not care about the assignment and has a very negative attitude toward it. As the story moves along Joe Jones starts to show interest toward the author,

“We were hauled into the Border Patrol van and driven to San Luis Obispo, the immigration headquarters. There we were asked endless questions and given papers to sign” (6). This is an example of conflict because it explains when the Jimenez family was caught and were sent back to Mexico. This is important because this helps the reader understand how so many people during this time tried to immigrate to the United States but were caught and sent back to their homeland. “Tears came to her eyes as she forced a smile. Roberto and I climbed onto the bus. We took our seat, wiped fog off the window, and waved” (17). This is an example of conflict because this was when Francisco and Roberto had to live by themselves without the rest of their family. This is important because it shows the extent that their parents would reach to make sure that they had a bright future ahead of them in the United States. Therefore, the author uses conflict to show all of the struggles that the Jimenez family had to deal with during the story.
b) Man against Himself: One good example of this type of conflict is the inner turmoil in Guy Montag. This conflict was started by his talks with the neighbor girl. She awakened a self-thinking side of him that was at odds with his brainwashed, socially acceptable side. As should be, this new side won out over his old self after he thought about it.

In the book, Shattered, the book is about a teen who begins to mature as he ages. The main character is starting to become more mature after he gets a placement at a soup kitchen. He starts to realise that there are many problems going on in the society. There are many types of conflicts that are going on around him. The four types of conflicts going on in the book are Human vs. Society, Human vs. Self, Human vs. Human and Human vs. Self. The one conflict that is really making this story apparent is Human vs. Society due to the Rwandan genocide. Conflict, the struggle against many forces of multiple varieties, creates the obstacle or issue a character must face to advance past the problem. In "To Build a Fire" by Jack London, conflict plays a major role in the story. The conflicts of man fighting against nature and man against himself present the struggles the unidentified man from "To Build a Fire" faces and attempts to overcome. These conflicts of man and nature influence the whole story and the fate of the character.

Because of this every story requires some type of conflict in order to progress. The types of conflict can range from a man enduring the elements, known as man against nature, or as one character against a larger group, man against society. In addition to the other styles of conflict, the most relatable and compelling is when one character is set against another, known as man against man. Kate Chopin’s story “The Storm” displays three examples of a man against man style conflict, Bobinot against his wife Calixtra, Alcee against Calixta, and Alcee against his wife Clarisse, these show how a nonviolent conflict can occur between characters.
