In Sudan, Africa, Thousands of people have a fear of getting a disease caused by mosquitoes called malaria. Malaria can lead to many problems in someone’s life, such as sickness or even death and that’s what we will be talking about today. In the book Year of No Rain by Alice Mead the theme is take precautions around mosquitos. In 1989, Many villagers in Sudan, Africa suffered disease caused by mosquitoes which carried malaria, which leads to serious side effects or even death. On page 66 the book points out that Henry cried out because the cow had been shot down, but Stephen pulled him close and covered his mouth with his hand. “Shut up,” he whispered to the little boy. “Do you want to get us killed? Now, lie still.” From the quote, it is talking about how Henry cared about the cow and disliked when it was shot down by the soldiers. It can be thought that Henry cares about the cow more than a lot of things in his life and even though all the boys have known that a cow is very resourceful during critical situations, Stephen cares more about keeping Henry and the rest of the boys safe. In another sentence, it states, “Cows gave them everything they needed to survive in the grasslands. They had been taught that since they were born.” In the book Year Of No Rain by Alice Mead, the boys have different points of view on drinking from the shallow pool of muddy water. In chapter 12 page 81, Stephen commented, ¨I have to explain something.¨ He pulled some rocks from his pocket and dropped them at his feet. ¨There are lions near the water hole.¨
