Oryx and Crake, a novel by Margaret Atwood is written in the third person and told through flashbacks. It is a story based of reflection, and survival. The main character Snowman - originally named Jimmy - has been given the responsibility to look after the Crakers - a new human species his friend Crake created. Snowman is one of the few people who survived the Jetspeed Ultra Virus Extraordinary, - JUVE for short - which Crake had placed into a pill that made people fertile, and protected them from sexually transmitted diseases. The pill was called BlyssPluss, but Jimmy - his name at the time - was immuned to it, do to an excess amount of shots he took to protect himself from diseases in the Pleeblands.

He knew it must have been humans, and he began to fear for the Crakers lives. Oryx and Crake’s ending made little to no sense, ending with Snowman walking up to the humans. As readers we can only assume what happens next…

As Snowman slowly creeps over to the small group sitting around the fire, he’s able to get a closer look at them. He recognizes the one man, it is Frogger, one of the guys he had let back into Paradise and sent to their rooms. How long had he stayed in there without Snowman knowing? When did he escape? Snowman made sure to check all the rooms before he left, just in case anyone had survived. He saw no one. Being stuck in his thoughts Snowman had not realized they were staring at him now. Mouths gaped open, tears in their eyes. The woman slightly embarrassed, looking away from his naked body.

“ It can’t be,” whispered the other guy, the man Snowman hadn’t recognized.

“ It is!” Hollered Frogger, “ Thickney! You survived.” Frogger ran over crying, tears of joy running down his face. He was engulfed in a hug, Snowman had not realized he was now crying too. “ Thickney, this is my brother-in-law Henry, and this is Jasmine. We found her a few months ago scared and alone.
