As I have already mentioned in my Common Application, I intend to pursue a graduate degree in conflict resolution and peace studies with plans to focus my research and education on counseling psychology and humanitarian issues. My resolution has lately been strengthened with the recent American and global political atmosphere. I have learned that if one wants change for good, they should bring it themselves. During the 11th and 12th grade, I worked with my friend writing and directing for our house play. This required working with over 30 students from different class grades (the school taught students from kindergarten to 12th). This inadvertently further involved me in my duties as a peer mentor with sophomore and sometimes freshmen students. After an interview last semester, I was fortunate in gaining a job for a student aide filling in as an administration assistant for the Music Department. I worked 18-19.50 hours over three days a week for four months while the department was involved in the hiring process for the open position. Moreover, I helped train the new assistant and get up to date with certain duties and functions, while getting her familiar with the department practices and people. I am thoroughly grateful for the job as it taught me the value of hard work, provided me with experience and special skills, and further involved me in working with students as I handled the front desk and helped them with their course, admissions and/or advisement questions. I ended up building relationships and friendships with the professors, staff, and students. Hence, I plan to further immerse myself in such activities by participating in internships and the on-campus employment program at
