Introduction: My career of interest is wildlife biology. Wildlife biology is the study of living organisms such as plants and animals through ecology, behavior, physiology, genetics, and biology. The reason this field interests me is because of my love of science and all the animals and plants that make up the world around us. To learn more about my field of study, I interviewed Noah Brady, a researcher in biology, on June 27, 2016.
Education Requirements and Marketability: The minimum requirement for becoming a wildlife biologist is to “obtain an undergraduate degree in wildlife biology, general biology, zoology, ecology, or another related field” (environmental science). This requirement, however, is only for entry level positions. To progress past an entry level position in wildlife biology, a “Master's degree or Ph.D. will be required” (***). In addition to acquiring a degree, certification from The Wildlife Society is vital for entering this research field. The career of a wildlife biologist is often guided by how much education and experience they have. A wildlife biologists that obtained a Ph.D. can “often lead research teams and determine the overall goals and pace of a project” rather than just being a part of the research. Noah Brady has experience with this type of promotion and stated that “advancement opportunities for wildlife biologists are numerous”. Brady was promoted “from being part of a research team to the director of one”. This promotion is not the only type of advancement, however, depending on where your place of employment is. Although Brady has not himself had experience with other types of promotion, he has colleagues that have been promoted from “working at a university to being hired as a professor and receiving
