Imagine spending your work days traveling the world, swimming in clear blue waters, surrounded by beautiful and colorful plants and animals, saving our oceans. That sounds like a pretty great career to me. Creating new habitat for marine life, finding out how fish communicate, studying sea turtles, and discovering how pollution affects our oceans and how to save them: these only an iota of the daily tasks of marine biologists. 95 percent of our oceans are still undiscovered, and I think that it is so exciting to push the limits to see what secrets our oceans behold. I believe that marine biology is the right career for me because I have many of the skills, talents, and motivation to become the best marine biologist I can be.
To become a successful marine biologist, there are certain job tasks, special skills, and talents, as well as a higher education that I would need to study and develop. To succeed in my work, I need to love working with animals and …show more content…

Typically, a student should enroll in multiple science courses with a focus on biology classes- including AP Biology, environmental science- again, AP if possible, and chemistry. Because marine biologists analyze and collect lots of data, taking multiple math classes such as calculus and statistics in high school would prove to be very beneficial in this career as well. Also, enrolling in political science classes would be helpful, because many issues and projects involving our environment can become quite political. After high school, it is mandatory to have a minimum of a bachelor's degree in biology, environmental science, and other related fields. Although, having a master’s degree or P.H.D. makes you more competitive, and is needed to work the higher paying jobs, and lead bigger, more intriguing projects. The more education you have, the more successful you will be, higher leadership roles become available, and bigger projects to work
