As a young man growing up, I have always been fascinated by science, medicine, and technology. Reading about the latest advancements in these subjects has always sparked my curiosity and imagination of how people are continually improving life. I knew I would have to find a career choice that would include my passion of science that also contributed to humanity. Pharmacy provides the perfect blend of my interests with improving patient quality of life, effective communication, and innovations in science and technology. The career options come in a variety of different opportunities. A Doctor of Pharmacy degree satisfies my immediate professional goals of continuing higher education and learning the latest techniques used in the field and drug developments. This degree would also put me in an advanced position for long term goals like becoming part of a healthcare team. Becoming a member of this team would put to use all the knowledge and skills I have acquired to interact with patients and other professionals to provide the highest level of care. Eventually I would like to start my own pharmacy or business that allows me to incorporate my pharmacy education.
Personally, I know I will achieve these goals based on my character and background. My love for science and technology fuels my passion to reach these goals. I am captivated by the fact that there is always new information to learn and exciting new ways to advance the field, so I will never lose interest. I always strive for excellence and understanding of anything I set my mind to and this can be seen in the level of focus and determination within me. Being a leader of a student organization, the Outdoor Club, has enhanced my other skills of organization and communication...

...or analysis. I too presented my research findings in front of the entire staff of my floor, and this is directly relevant to a pharmacist presenting to a healthcare team. Co-authoring a book has strengthened the clarity of how I communicate ideas. In a similar fashion to research, it has also taught me how to collect information and present it.
A career in pharmacy is an intimate profession that ties improving patient health care, effective communication, and innovations in science and technology together. My personal drive combined with the education and experiences I have acquired will lead me to both my immediate and long-term professional goals. Improving patient quality of life, working directly with patients and a healthcare team, and eventually starting my own business will be benefited by a Doctor of Pharmacy degree, making pharmacy an excellent fit for me.
