Do you think that cell phones are good for you? Guess what, they ARE really good for teaching kids, BUT, there is another side of cell phones. Many schools are still struggling with whether they should have cell phones or not. You have no idea what cell phone is “after you”. Since cell phones are bad for kids’ health, cell phones can make kids lose their trust and it can be a distraction, so, I think that cell phones should be banned from school. The first reason I think cell phones should be banned from school is because kids are using too much technology and it is bad for kids’ health. An example is in the article “5 ways cell phones harm your health”. It says “It’s not really something we think about, but a recent study noted cell phones …show more content…

Another example is “ a study released in January 2010 by the Kaiser Family Foundation found that total media exposure per day for young people ages 13-18 increased from 7 hours and 29 minutes in 1999 to 10 hours and 45 minutes in 2009.” this shows me that kids are having more screen time as the year grew. I think that if kids are having too much screen time, it will be bad for their own health. Kids won’t sleep well, which will make them tired the next morning, they are going to sleep longer and be late for school and they won’t pay any attention to what they are supposed to learn. For example in this article “Schools seek balance for cell phones in class”, it states “The texting, tweeting, and Snapchatting during class time are ‘an incredible distraction, and makes it much more difficult to teach,” she (Miriam Morgenstern)said. “It’s pretty hard to compete with a very funny YouTube video.’” this shows me that the internet is way “stronger” than the teacher. Miriam Morgenstern even said that it is pretty hard to compete with technology. This makes me think that almost all the kids would watch a funny YouTube video rather that listening to the teacher teaching. Why would they do that? Is it because the teacher is teaching really boring? Even though, they can get in big trouble for that. Another example is “Not just in the hallway during the five minutes between classes, but also in the classroom, at every opportunity the teacher gives them.” This quote shows me that when the teacher lets them have them out during recess time, they still tried to find every single opportunity that they can to “play” their cell phones. In addition, “ but as pertains to cell phone in the classroom, parents are simply added to their growing list of distractions.” this makes me think maybe some of the parents are also for against having cell phones at school, because they may be thinking that it is also a distraction for kids and is showing disrespectful to the teachers when
