Why Teachers Should Be Paid

It takes a special kind of person to become a teacher. One must be patient and kind, yet stern enough to enforce the rules. Teachers take on a lot of responsibility, but are not fully compensated for all that they do. Teachers spend time working outside of the classroom, and during their summer without pay; as a result, some decide to leave their rewarding careers. Teachers play a very important role in the lives of both children and adults, so they should be paid more for their duties. To begin with, the average teacher works a lot longer than a 40 hour work week, yet that is all that they are salaried. Educators spend much time at school before and after hours for assigned duties. For example, there are morning and afternoon duties that accumulate hours that are not paid. Teacher also stay late for meetings and parent conferences. At home, there are papers to be graded, and lesson plans that have to be ready for the next day. Some may think that a teachers pay levels out because of the summer, but most teachers are actually not off. There are many activities throughout the summer that takes up a lot of time. For instance, different clubs still meet during the summer or take trips with students, and some even take on a summer sports and coach. Summer school is also another unpaid job that is taken on. Another way teachers use their summer time is by working a second job to compensate for the insufficient income. Attending school is also way teachers use their summer time to advance their career for better pay.
