Leadership is undoubtedly one of the most important characteristics of a person when considering them for most key positions. One key thing that all leaders have in common is being able to inspire action through asking great questions. The sort of question that assesses great leadership is “Why should anyone be led by you?” While this question is basic, it serves a great purpose in giving the respondent a chance to show what they have to offer Leadership has a direct relationship with followership. Most people see people who follow as weak, but it is just as important as being a leader in many cases. Throughout most of my high school career I was a follower. I listened to what the captains said and responded to their orders. I played my role on the team, but I also observed how certain captains operated and how the team responded to some of them. An unfortunate series of events had taken place and my head coach got fired. At this point in our already unsuccessful season most of the team had given up. This included the captains of the team. A new coach was announced and the morale of my team was at an all-time low. At this point I decided to step up as a leader and help my team make the most out of this season. I made the decision to arrive an hour before practice and stay an hour late as an attempt to help my teammates who were new to the sport. The new coach observed how the team reacted to me, and did not understand why the team had a greater response to when I spoke to them before practice, than when the captains spoke to them during practice.
