If you were being treated horribly in your own home, would you fake your death in order to escape? Tom Sawyer, who had always been known as a trouble maker in the small town of St. Petersburg, Missouri. He had played hooky, lied, cheated, and stole. So When he was out with his two friends, they decided that they wanted to be free, like the pirates they pretended to be. Both sides agree that Sawyer needed discipline, although they disagree that his aunt was doing her best to raise him. Many people believe that Tom should have faked his death, whereas the rest believe that he should not have faked his death. Tom Sawyer should have faked his death for three main reasons: Happily, he would be free do whatever he wanted, successfully, it would have meant revenge on his family, and thankfully, he would have been with his best friends. Sawyer’s Aunt Polly punished him frequently. She made him whitewash their fence when he skipped school. She also tried to punish him, instead of his little brother, when he was caught eating sugar. His little brother felt terrible, because on numerous occasions, he had tattled on Tom for repeated offences. He even caused Tom to be in trouble for things that he did not do. Making his family believe that he was dead would have been the ultimate revenge. The third and final reason Tom should have faked his death is that he would have been with his best friends. Joe Harper, who was Sawyer’s best friend, joined Tom on many escapades. That made him the perfect candidate to join Tom. Huckleberry Finn was already known for having a free lifestyle. So, when both boys found out about their love for adventure, they became inseparable. The trio admired how free a pirate’s life was. Tom wanted Joe Harper and Huckleberry Finn to join him and form a pirate crew. Conclusion
