Good afternoon Ms Llewellyn and students of 8 Red. The topic for our debate today is space exploration is not worth the cost. As the affirmative speaker, I agree with this statement. My definition of space exploration is the investigation of physical conditions in space and on stars, planets and other celestial bodies through the use of artificial satellites, space probes and astronauts. Cost describes an amount that has to be paid or spent to buy or obtain something. Today I will be proving that we should “Stop exploring space because it’s just a waste.” I will be presenting three main arguments to support my case. My first argument is that space exploration costs too much and we could spend this money on more beneficial aspects. My second argument is that astronauts are at a higher risk of developing serious health issues and in some cases, unable to return to Earth. My final argument is that our universe is too big so it is impossible to explore everything. …show more content…

The average cost per launch is about $1.5 billion dollars. Why should the government spend huge amounts of money on space programs when they could use it to solve more pressing matters? According to recent studies, almost half of the world live in poverty. 1.2 billion people in developing countries have inadequate access to water and 2.6 billion lack basic sanitation. This is a total disaster and we should start helping these starving, homeless and poor people. We should be using our hard-earned money on these charitable causes which include funding medical research and educational programs or resolving environmental and economic problems.
