John Hancock was born on January 23, 1737 in Braintree, Massachusetts. He died in Hancock Manor on October 8, 1793. John Hancock was hunted by the British general Thomas Gage. People think John Hancock signed his name big so King George III could see it without his eyeglasses. Another interesting fact is when John Hancock was only 27 years old he was one of the most wealthiest men in Massachusetts. Next interesting fact about John Hancock is he had a boat named The Liberty. It was taken by the British government because he used it to smuggle British goods that he did not pay tax on. Lastly, Countries in ten different states are named in honor of him. One quote John Hancock said was,”Some boast of being friends to government; I am a friend to righteous government, to a government founded upon the principles of reason and justice; but I glory in publicly avowing my eternal enmity to tyranny.” When I was researching John Hancock I learned may new and interesting things.
