I believe that a course in Media is the right one for me not only due to media being a interest of mine, but as my hopeful career path. The production of media particularly is something that has gripped me, firstly starting off just as a hobby, making YouTube videos with friends, before turning into a serious choice for my profession. I am currently studying Media Studies, Film Studies and Psychology at A2 Level and I have completed an AS Level in photography. My favourite part of AS Media was creating an opening to a film for our coursework as it meant I could be involved in the production side. Me and the group I worked with were enthusiastic and determined to create the best we could. I also learnt how to use and produce a film on Final …show more content…
I completed a Micro study on a film scene of my choice, and used all these skills to complete the task. The topic of social realism was particularly interesting to me as I enjoy watching films within that genre, i.e. Billy Elliot. Learning about the production process for these particular films to make the audience react in a certain way to real life happenings. I also went on many extra curricular trips with college based on the media world. We visited Harry Potter Studies where we attended a class on the process of how a film goes from script to screen. We also visited the BBC broadcasting house in London which I found really interesting learning about not only the iconic places of the BBC but also finding out the history of the BBC & its influences in the media. We also visited MediaCityUK, which is a place that definitely inspires me to partake in media. I really enjoyed using the equipment that MediaCityUK had to offer from the cameras to the radio …show more content…
Whilst on our expedition, me and my group got lost and came close to giving up but we persevered and worked out where we were supposed to be and got ourselves back on track in order for us to complete the expedition giving me great group working skills as well as patience, commitment and maturity. For my volunteering work, I helped out at the local Brownies including even running a night for them on my own about fair trade including a presentation and games with information about fair trade. I thoroughly enjoyed working with the children as this gave me more confidence for how different age groups like to be
I have participated in several volunteer opportunities as a Girl Scout, singing Christmas carols at a local hospital, picking up trash along the beach, working at a homeless shelter, leading events for younger Girl Scouts and much more. These opportunities have influenced me to become aware of the struggles within my
Last year I took part in an active community outreach at a shelter for five hours in Skid Row slum in Los Angeles. This helped me to connect with the people in the area and learn their way of living, understand their immediate needs and the problems that they face in their living environment.
This was excellent preparation for eventual employment as a multimedia journalist. I was able to learn how to set up a tripod and camera for an interview and how to adjust the angle of the shot and adapt to the lighting. Moreover, I learnt handy tricks, such as clapping three times before beginning an interview to allow me to see exactly where the footage and audio from both cameras and lapel microphones aligned when editing in Adobe Premiere, or to mute my own microphone in Premiere to ensure a “less boom-y” sound from the interviewee’s microphone when they were talking and vice-versa. Editing was another key skill I began to develop through this project. Although it was not extremely difficult, it was more time consuming than I had previously anticipated.
From the very beginning, it was apparent that there was going to be a great deal of communication and learning done in this project. I could not be any more thankful for the group I was in. I believe our personalities and attitudes all meshed quite well to get this to the finish line.
In addition to my work experience, I have completed a 14 day trip to Malaysian Borneo to carry out aid work. This involved helping the local community to build clean water tanks and refurbish their homes. I was able to build relationships with members of the team to reach our common goal. This gave me a positive belief in my own ability while operating in an unfamiliar environment. This experience also helped me to foster my ambition to help
In the end this assignment was one that was not only eye-opening, but also one that had some personal fulfillment was well. I was able to truly access my own personal usage and see not only how it compared to others but also show me that I needed to really think and question myself about if I truly need to use Media as much as I currently do. Along with this the Media silent day also showed me that we don 't need to be connected with the media for our lives to function normally and that in fact we as humans can be much more productive without it, something that I was able to experience first hand over these 5 days. What I learned about my media consumption I know I will carry with me not only throughout this year but hopefully my entire life as well.
Filmmaking is that job for me. Though it is hard and filled with literal blood sweat and tears, it is one of the most rewarding jobs a person can have. You put all of your passion into a project that starts on paper and ends on giant screen for the world to see. You make content that people talk about for days and watch over and over again. To be that successful would be a dream come true. To be apart of films that help someone, that entertain a child’s imagination, brings someone to tears, and makes someone laugh is all I want to do. If I can do that as a career, then I will not work a day in my life. I don't know where I am going to go from here but I know I have the skills to be a good filmmaker and the passion to push forward. I am forever thankful for my professors for guiding me, my family for supporting me, and all of the films that ever inspired me for pushing me
One of the major contributions I have made is making a pre-test and post-test for the Bible study class. The reason behind this is to evaluate how effective our teaching was during the presentation. Another outcome from the pre/posttests was to analyze and compile my own statistics for our project in regards to knowledge of life saving techniques. During my calculations of the statistics helped me gain a better understanding of how much information the class knew before the presentation and after. Lastly, being a team leader during this project has helped me learn how to manage and work with individuals who are not interested in participating in a group.
This was able to improve speaking to people or in front of them such as I would do in presentation. This satisfied me and made me feel good because in way, this was community service. I was also able to create bonds with the students I taught. Every Time I see them, they wave to me now or come up to me and give me a hug. This reminds me that helping others can really impact your day and change your mood in a good way. Volunteering in this event was able to extend and enhance my knowledge in leadership as well grow new experiences and develop better communication skills. Other than personally benefitting me, this benefited me in school. In high school, you are required to help others in the form of community service hours. For example, I can tutor at Kimball in my strongest subject. I found doing this assignment a great experience for preparing me for future years as well as teaching me what I can improve
My A level subjects include English combined, Religious Studies and Music, all which I find very inspirational. I am particularly affectionate towards English, as I thoroughly enjoy reading both core texts and my own wider reading. While many motion pictures are originally novels, I feel that the visual account of storytelling strengthens the essence of film.
I have been taking Film Studies at Godalming College for a year, I've received a good grade at AS and I know that continuing this subject on to University will allow me to pursue my passion for Films and give me a better chance to have my dream career. For my Film Studies coursework I am currently writing a screenplay which I enjoy and would like to develop my skills within screen writing and hope that it will benefit me in the future with my career. After University, I would like to spend a few months as an intern at a studio, and having a film degree will increase my chances of being chosen as it is a very competitive industry. I believe that having a film related degree will give me that step and experience to have a career in
This past summer I engaged in my first job, on which I was working on a fishing charter. They taught me to master new skills for not just fishing, but also great general strategies. Not only did I learn skills that are necessary anywhere I go, but
It also influenced my decision to read a Criminology degree as the current treatment of criminals, how we should treat them, and our collective responsibility intrigues me. Media studies has honed my skill in analytical writing as from this subject it helps me gain cultural context for arguments which is particularly applicable in philosophy and ethics and would be to immensely helpful in a Criminology
I spent most of my time in a first grade classroom. In this classroom I observed the children as well as the teacher and paraprofessional. This classroom had children with special needs and that is why there was a paraprofessional in the classroom for half the day. What I observed in this classroom was how children with special need should be handle and taught. The teachers in this room loves her job and each student in her class. While in the classroom the teacher allowed me to help with children with their work, read to them and help them with anything else that they needed. During this field experience I got to give back to not only a school, but to a community that is very near and dear to my heart. I hope that I touched each student in a special way, because the students that I got the opportunity to help learn touched my
Perhaps the strongest foundation for media education rests in the fact that increased awareness of media transforms students from passive to active participants in society. Learners must be offered hands-on application opportunities to increase their own knowledge and enjoyment of the media. The integration of formal media analysis with media production is an essential constituent of media literacy. Creative ventures, such as television or radio production, the development of a rock video or song, photography classes, script-writing, web-page development, or hypertext projects should be made available for students' participation and perusal. Students must be exposed to various forms of communication before they can recognize logical disparities, determine the strength of an argument, evaluate mass media, and actively join our democratic society as partners.
