Dress Code Problems In a recent survey, 93.4% of students said that they don’t get distracted when girl’s shoulders or backs are showing. Students should be able to wear what is comfortable to them and not be treated like little kids. Students deserve a say in what they wear. The dress code applies to some guys but focuses more on girls. It’s unfair because we aren’t allowed to wear what we want and what we like. The dress code keeps you from wearing comfortable clothes and clothes for specific times of the year. The dress code needs to change because it is mostly directed to girls.Girls have been attacked time and time again with dress codes. Policies are almost always directed strictly towards girls. No shirts that reveal midriffs are allowed either. Sometimes the amount of how much a girl’s back is showing is restricted. Leggings and yoga pants cannot be too tight, and in some schools they are banned completely. [...] These regulations clearly apply to girls more-so than they do boys. Boys shorts are made longer, their tank tops have thicker straps, and they have no bra straps or cleavage to hide. Do we really think that this all is a coincidence?(1) This quote shows that boys and girls do wear the same things but, boy clothing is made longer or have thicker straps. And that boys don’t have any cleavage or anything to hide. Thus proving that the dress code mainly targets females. Many students believe that the dress code is unfair. In an article by Skylar M, she states, “Dress codes are unfair, and body shame young women. Fifty-three percent of teenage girls report that they are already unhappy with their body, so why would schools make teenage girls feel bad about showing a little skin. It’s not like girls are running around with nothing on”.(1) This showing that some girls don’t even like their body, and that the school thinks they are trying to show off your body or a little skin.
