War Horse is the sad story of a thoroughbred horse named Joey and his journey from a farm horse to a horse used in the war, eventually leading him back to his home in Devon. Joey has a number of different owners in each part of the story. His truly original owner is those who own the pasture where he is born in Devon. This person is never named in this story but is still recognized as Joey’s original owner. When Joey comes of age he is taken to auction to be sold. Here he is bid on until Ted Narracott outbids his competitors. He takes Joey home where his wife disapproves of his decision and tells him to take the horse back. Albert tries to get Joey back but fails to do so. Albert is then promised by Captain James Nicholls that he will take good care of Joey. Joey becomes James’s horse and chosen mount for the war. Captain Nicholls rides Joey into battle, but he and his battalion are mowed down by machine gun fire. Joey survives this and him along with a black horse named Topthorn are captured by German forces. They are then put to work pulling the ambulance wagon and taken care of by a German soldier named Gunther. Gunther and his younger brother flee the army and hide the horses in a windmill. The brothers are later found by some soldiers from their division and are shot by a small firing squad. Joey and Topthorn are later discovered by a little girl named Emilie –since the windmill was on her grandfather’s land. Emilie cares for them and claims them as her own. She also gives them different names. German soldiers come and search the house and take any food they find. Emilie hides the horses in her bedroom so they are not discovered. Her grandfather finally permits Emilie to ride Joey to the top of the hill and back, but she doesn’t return. " The belly of one of the horses has been ripped open and its guts are trailing out." This shows that there are not just human casualties of war; the innocent lives of animals can be affected as much as humans who fight in wars. Deterring-one soldier in Pauls group-says. " It is the most despicable thing of all to drag animals into a war.
Robert returns to the front on an ammunition convoy towards Wytsbrouk. He encounters some shelling but his life is spared. On the seventh day since returning from the front Robert is with Captain Leather and thirty horses and mules. When the German’s begin to bomb their location Robert asks Leather if he can release the animals in order to save them, but Leather was in a panic under a table and refused. However, Robert convinces Devlin to open the gate to release the animals. When Leather witnesses what Devlin is doing he fires and shoots Devlin in the head. Shells begin to land in the barns and as Roberts attempts to kill the wounded animals he thinks that if Leather was an animal he was be deemed mad and be shot.
When one of the Socs tries to drown Pony, he goes unconscious and when he wakes up, he sees that Johnny has killed one of the Socs. The two boys decide to go to their friend Dally; he gives them money and directions to a church in the country. There they hide out for a long week, and after it Dally comes to find them. After eating, they return to the church and see that it has caught fire. A group of children are stuck in the burning building.

The horse symbolizes many things, some being personal drive, passion, and an appetite for freedom. An appetite for freedom is the symbol that sticks out the most from the many. Indian Horse is a novel by Richard Wagamese that beautifully explores the idea of family, and what it means to have people around you that make you feel at home. The reader is bombarded with an overwhelming sense of family and betrayal in the first few pages of the novel. As Richard Wagamese continues to write, one is able to see how safe Saul Indian Horse felt with his biological family, and he also shows how lost he felt without their love when he was taken to the Residential School. The school he was brought to was drained of all consensual love the moment it was open, and continued to fill the children with horrible feelings the entire time they were there. The battle of Saratoga was a significant turning point in the American Revolutionary War. This key conflict was, in fact, two significant battles that shaped America’s struggle for independence. The battles were fought 18 days apart in the same location - 9 miles south of Saratoga, New York. John Burgoyne, the British General, had an initial strategy to divide New England from the southern colonies. This was at first successful when the British took Pennsylvania, but hit a snag when Burgoyne met the Continental Army at Freeman’s Farm on September 19, 1777 - the first of the Saratoga battles. This was a tactical victory for the British, but it came at a price, as their casualties were heavy. It was known that the British won this Battle at Freeman’s Farm, but in actuality, they didn’t have many troops left. On October 7, in the Battle of Bemis Heights, the second Battle of Saratoga, Britain attacked America again as Burgoyne took the offensive. The troops crashed together south of the town of Saratoga, and Burgoyne's army was broken and his command captured. At this battle, the Americans were able to capture a large number of British troops, ultimately resulting in Burgoyne’s surrender on October 17, 1777. More than 100,000 U.S horses are sent to slaughter each year for their meat. The meat is then shipped overseas to Europe for human consumption. Horse slaughter is a big issue in the equine community. Many people in the equine community say it’s inhuman by the way the horses are killed, but many equestrians also say its moral due to population control. so which is it, is horse slaughter bad or good? This report will look at what horses usually go to slaughter, how the U.S and other countries view horses, how different people view horses and what would happen if slaughter ended.
The auction lot is not a place that a horse would want to be as many although not all are a terrible place for a horse to be. All types of horses are found at an auction all though an estimated 93.2% of the horses that are at the lots and are on their way to slaughter are deemed in good condition according to the US Department of Agriculture’s Guidelines for the handling and Transportation of equines to slaughter. The young and healthy horses are what the kill buyers are looking for, as they are able to make a greater profit then that of older and sick horses. In the beginning of the short story, the young boy is already imprinted with the ideas of war from his father. His father was a former soldier who “had fought against naked savages and followed the flag of his country..” (Bierce 41). The image of war that is imprinted on the young boy from his father is that of nobility and righteous that comes from war.
Mr. Jones was unable to defeat the animals, therefore the animals got a boost of confidence. Now at this point Mollie runs away and Snowball begins his plans for a windmill. When Snowball’s plans are finished, Napoleon’s dog’s start to chase him off the farm. The farm just lost the best leader they could have had. They loose their chance to give input on what direction the farm should go, and Napoleon begings blaming Snowball for all the things that he did not do. Now Napoleon sets the animals to work on Sundays again and acquires Mr. Whymper as the farm’s broker. Napoleon starts to sell some of the farm’s produce. And the pigs start sleeping one hour later, and in beds. Then the windmill gets blown over and Snowball gets the blame. At this point the pigs still continue to abuse the power and stealing from the other animals.

While they fight the humans Boxer is hurt severely, but being the hard worker he is he pushes himself to rebuild the windmill where he falls over from his injury. Boxer disappears and Napoleon sends a message through Squealer that he has died a peaceful death when he actually sold him to the knacker for money. Napoleon always sends to Squealer to justify these matters and the animals began to become less convinced each time. The pigs eventually become just like people as the animals look through the window of the house one night as Napoleon and all the pigs sit around a table talking to the neighboring farmers about becoming friends with one another. The animals sit outside and realize through all this change the they cannot tell the difference between the pigs and the humans.

People do not realize that it takes a lot of to ride a horse and the rider does a lot of work as well and its good exercise too.
