The Animated Man: A Life of Walt Disney One of the most famous entrepreneurs of the world is a man named Walt Disney. Disney is quoted saying, “ In the twenty years I have spent in this business, I have weathered many storm. It has been far from easy sailing. It has required a great deal of hard work, struggle, determination, confidence, faith, and above all unselfishness. Perhaps the greatest single factor has been our unselfish attitude toward our work.” In reading the book The Animated Man: A Life of Walt Disney written by Michael Barrier I see this quote reflected many times. The book gives many details of Walt

Walt's parent Elias and Flora Disney had five children; Herbert, Raymond, Roy, Walter, and Ruth. The Disney family were all hard workers with farm chores and running a family paper route. Walt Disney received his entrepreneur attitude from his father who was always finding new business ventures. During his teenage years Walt began drawing and studied art. World War I changed many lives and Walt's brother Roy was serving in the military. Walt was able to see the homecoming of his brother and other soldier and it inspired him to join in the effort. In 1916, Walt dropped out of school and lied about his age to joined the American Ambulance Corps. (The Animated Man Page 45) They had two intelligent daughters Diane Marie Disney and Sharon Mae Disney who Walt cherished. Walt was truly a family man who always made sure to spend time with his wife and daughters. Walt Disney came up with a new inspiration for a cartoon “ Mortimer Mouse”. Lillian, Walt's wife loved the idea, however thought that “Mickey” would suit the character better. Little did Walt Disney know this mouse would be his ticket to success. Although Roy still held his position in the firm, Walt decided to take the reigns. In 1928, Walt Disney renamed the business to Walt Disney Pictures. Walt Disney Pictures struggle at first to find funds for productions of all Walt ideas. Walt Disney never gave up on his dream with continued work Walt Disney Pictures pumped out a large number of productions. The animation of Cinderella helped put Walt Disney Pictures back on track.
