Question 4. Explain what the authors of your text wanted to convey with the following words in the subtitle of Chapter 7: “Vital, Visible, and Vicious.” Explain why Compensation plans always generate displeasure among both public and private sector employees. a. The authors refer vital, viable and vicious in terms of how jurisdiction handles salaries and benefits. Vital is in reference to maintaining an organizations creditability and individual sustenance. Good management of salaries and benefit programs are vital in order to achieve optimal success within an organization. Again since payroll is a huge part of an organizations budget, handling this would be pretty important. Visible refers to the fact that payroll or agencies, and employee salaries are a matter of public record. People can see how an organization manages its money and compare this to others. Vicious refers to actual or an …show more content…
One reason that compensation plans produce displeasure is because employees often compare themselves to others. Weather it is with individual in similar type of positions within the agency, other individuals who are not in the same positions in the agency or even in the same department or people who don’t even do the same job, a person will often has the tendency to compare themselves. The point is that as people we all compare ourselves to what others have and if there is any distinction between us and them, someone may become disgruntle. Compensation is a little more prevalent with comparing oneself, well because it’s usually all about money. Another reason is the remuneration is driven more by political than economic considerations. Politics is more concerned with cost of personnel and compensation programs are used as political pawns. Politics is not fond of raising taxes, adjusting budgets, cutting off services etc. in order to increase pay wages. Politics affects compensation more than objective merit which does not inspire confidence in compensation
In “The Fish” by Elizabeth Bishop, the narrator attempts to understand the relationship between humans and nature and finds herself concluding that they are intertwined due to humans’ underlying need to take away from nature, whether through the act of poetic imagination or through the exploitation and contamination of nature. Bishop’s view of nature changes from one where it is an unknown, mysterious, and fearful presence that is antagonistic, to one that characterizes nature as being resilient when faced against harm and often victimized by people. Mary Oliver’s poem also titled “The Fish” offers a response to Bishop’s idea that people are harming nature, by providing another reason as to why people are harming nature, which is due to how people are unable to view nature as something that exists and goes beyond the purpose of serving human needs and offers a different interpretation of the relationship between man and nature. Oliver believes that nature serves as subsidence for humans, both physically and spiritually. Unlike Bishop who finds peace through understanding her role in nature’s plight and acceptance at the merging between the natural and human worlds, Oliver finds that through the literal act of consuming nature can she obtain a form of empowerment that allows her to become one with nature.
Jean Luc Godard’s Breathless is often regarded one of the earliest films exhibiting the French New Wave style of cinema due to its influence on the movement and innovation by the producers. One of the most noticeable edits that Godard does in Breathless is the jump-cuts made frequently during conversations, and other times when one would expect continuity, in order to break up the flow of story to the audience and force them to actively participate on understanding the progression of events. This is quite contrary to the typical Hollywood style of film editing as transitions between shots are usually smoothed over as much as possible so that the audience focuses solely on the plot events transpiring on the screen rather than the editing

The U.S. government plays the enactment and enforcement roles concerning compensation in organizations. They establish and enforce legislative rules and standards for compensation that ensure and protect the fair and equitable treatment of employees and their well being (Milkovich, Newman, & Gerhart, 2016, p. 614). Through the Department of Labor, and its many subordinate agencies, the government’s mission is to, “foster, promote, and develop the welfare of the wage earners, job seekers, and retirees of the United States; improve working conditions; advance opportunities for profitable employment; and assure work-related benefits and rights” (U.S. Department of Labor,
‘Being Mortal’ was a fascinating read about a young man who grows in the understanding of death and dying and what matters most in the end. We all have constraints and no matter how well we take care of ourselves and live our life, death comes to us all; and how we meet that end can be very different depending on how we want to spend the last moments of our journey. Medical science has its power and pushes the boundaries of life and death, but it can’t always save you, it won’t always work out the way that you hope it does. Doctors like Atul Gawande struggle to fix everyone’s problem and cure the patients who come into the hospital; but as the book progresses Atul finds that there are ways to handle patients’ lives and it doesn’t always involve

...o do and what they are best at and enjoy doing. Employers that make a significant percentage of the compensation package variable will benefit both the organization and the employee by encouraging high-caliber performance. Few companies truly differentiate between better than average and less than average performers when salary increases are given out.
Leaders are using variable pay to motivate employees, by guaranteeing a raise, only to the employees that put in work. Having that being said, the employee that do not meet the company’s expectations will not receive a bonus. This could cause them to be stressed and worried throughout time periods wondering if their evaluation will meet requirements. This could cause instability to many employees.
Erin Ashley Wronko stood from her seat on the school’s metal bleachers and walked over to Ms. Collins. After calling her teacher’s name for the third time the adult finally turned toward her.
In literary essays, students are exploring meaning and construction of a piece of literature. In a review students are discussing overall effect and validity of written work, while in a literary essay students are paying more attention to specifics. Students are taking a piece of writing and trying to discover how and why it is put together way it is. Students must adopt a viewpoint on work in question and show how details of work support their viewpoint.

Historically, the suppression of particular people and nations has been seen by those in power, as a necessity if they wish to secure dominance. People have created subjugated groups and divide by the assertion of one opinion being of more importance than others. Many binary relationships hold a more dominant group, and this is also apparent within literature. Patriarchal discourse has created a male dominance within literature creating a male canon and leaving female writers on the periphery. Men wanted to uphold the prejudices held against women authors and attempted this by constructing history which denied women writers. Gender was, at one point, such a crucial part in writing that women published their novels under a pseudonym or even anonymously, in an attempt to receive an unbiased review. Supporting this notion, in Veils of Irony Anna Udden declares that in 18th Century literature “no critic ever dealt with a literary work without first having made the decision whether the writer was a man or a woman. Only then could he address its literary merit…” (52).
The total pay package has a direct impact on the successful recruitment, selection and the retention of staff within any organization. This pay package is critical for any business to remain competitive in today’s business world. Competitive compensation packages are vital to both large and small organizations as they encourage the retention of talented staff.
An explosion is a type of spontaneous chemical reaction that once it is initiated it will be driven by both a large exothermic change and a large positive entropy change in going from reactants to products, thereby constituting a thermodynamically process in which it propagates very rapidly, but in some cases the rate decreases thereby resulting in a slower depleting form of the explosive.
There was something special that happened on my Sunday evening. The Kinda special when you knew something was going to happen, good or bad. Me and my soccer team had made it to the finals after winning the playoffs on Saturday, we couldn 't wait for this day. On this certain day, the feeling in my stomach was horrible, I just had that nervous intensity of butterflies. But I was fierce, aggressive, and ready to bring this trophy home.
