Vintage Fashion The swinging sixties Introduction People’s opinions differ greatly on what vintage fashion is. Rhodes (2008, pg. 6-8) suggests that “vintage fashion is a magical harvest of wearable art. It’s a wine from past seasons that must be dipped into, sampled and tasted.” Taylor (2013, p. 8) also suggests that vintage is a “garment that possesses age, beauty and great design.” I agree with these statements and believe that there is a story behind every vintage garment. Some say that vintage is another word for old fashioned, Rhodes suggests that vintage clothes have had an adventure and have survived the toil of time (2013). Some of the sixties' style has stood the test of time and are still in fashion today. When buying vintage you need to ensure that what you are getting is vintage and not a forgery. You should look after your purchases and treat them with the respect they deserve. After all, they have been around long before you, and if handled with love and care, you will be helping to maintain a history of fashion.
