On this day known as Veterans Day, let us take a moment to remember the service of our veterans, and to let us renew our national promise to fulfill our sacred obligations to our brave veterans and to their families who have sacrificed so much in order for us to keep living free.
It took a while to officially create the known holiday, Veterans Day, but finally after World War 2, and the Korean War, in 1954 they amended the Act of 1938 and created Veterans Day. Without Veterans Day, which is held on November 11, our veterans who are deceased, who served in the past, who are presently serving, and who will serve, wouldn't get the recognition that they deserve. I hear so many wonderful things that people say about our veterans. “Our Veterans accepted the responsibility to defend America and uphold our values when duty called.” “Without heroes, we are all plain people, and don’t know how far we can go.”
My grandfather James DeWitt put his life on the line, fighting for our country's freedom during the Vietnam war. He was a brave man and he still is to this day, he was afraid he could have lost his life, but he never once showed his fear. My grandfather went into war not knowing what things would happen to him, but he had faith and he survived the war. If he would have never made it through the war i wouldn’t be here writing this essay about why our veterans are important to our nations history and future.
Our veterans were taken for granted, they were not appreciated, they were blamed, bullied, and they were persecuted for being involved in a war that they never really understood. An example of this is when our veterans fought in the Vietnam war. When they came home from war they weren't recognized, people spit on them, no jobs would hire them, when seen on the streets they would get yelled at. An example of this horrible treatment and injustice currently is how our veterans medical aid is lacking. They gave their all fighting for our country's freedom and in return they were promised free medical care, which in reality is tied up in bureaucracy and
