The documentary, Very Young Girls, was heart-wrenching, informative, and very hard to relate to these young girls. These girls are daughters, sisters, friends, family, and some are already mothers. However, these young women are treated and seen as criminals, not as victims. Prostitution and human-trafficking happens everywhere and every day, including in the United States. People have this perspective that human trafficking only happens in foreign countries. There’s a negative stigma on prostitution because we, as a society, only pay attention to the sexual acts and services that these women provide. She went to the police station in the middle of the night to see if the police station had her daughter or seen her daughter, but they could not help her. That means that law enforcement does not care that young women with a future ahead of them are being sexually abused and are doing these inappropriate acts for another man to make money. They are prone to sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancies. The mother’s daughter was only 15 years old and has already been arrested for prostitution. Due to her age, she has the legal right to consent to sex. The judge did let her go home with her mother, but she still has that on her record. This topic is not discussed regularly and it seems that not much is being done about it. For example, when this one girl got a job over the phone. She was extremely excited and kicked her legs with joy, even though she does not have any experience. The others female that was leaving GEMS to better her life by getting her own apartment and starting a new and positive life style. The other women who started to build their new life in GEMS, and eventually will go on their own. The hope is that these girls do not relapse and go back to their old life
