In item A it argues that the ‘cultural factors’ are the most important cause of social class differences. ‘Cultural factors’ can include cultural deprivation, cultural capital and material deprivation; they also link to the external and internal factors that are shown to have an influence in difference in class in the UK. The Internal factors are factors within the school and the education system and external factors such as factors outside the education system influences from home and family background. Capital culture as said above include cultural deprivation which means the basic values, attitudes and skills that are needed for education success through primary socialization in the family. Some cultural deprivation theorists believe that the working class fail to socialize their children sufficiently as they are ‘culturally deprived’. This is when the children don’t have the right equipment for school so they can achieve the best grade and the reason to why they are under- achieving in item A it that critics believe that ‘material factors’ affect the gap in social class the most. Cultural deprivation comes under three main aspects the first one is ‘Language’ as shown in item A ‘social class differences in educational achievement’ is one of the main reasons for the gap between the working class and middle class. The importance of language in education is portrayed by the sociologist Carl Bereiter and Siegfried Engelmann (1966) as they believe the lower class family use different language and mostly use hand gestural. Basil Bernstein (1975) has also shown differences between working class and middle class he shows this by the two speech codes. The restricted code is the speech used by working class, it limits the vocabulary a... ... middle of paper ... ...leep from sharing bedroom or beds. Families that live in BBs accommodation may find themselves having to move more and disturbing the child’s education. Also poor housing can affect the child’s health and welfare, for example children who live in crowed home have a greater rick of accidents. Living in a cold and damp house can also cause illness especially breathing problems. In conclusion the most important factor that affects the achievement between working class and middle class is cultural factors as all the factors link causing the social class difference. Material factors dose have a role in the gap difference but the social factors are the ones that change the individuals aim in wanting to achieve the highest grades that they can achieve but if the child lacks the deferred gratification or immediate they won’t succeed in achieving.
