In analyzing how the use of robots changed the world, we are going to look at two ethical considerations associated with robotic surgery in relation to its impact on humanity such as deontology and utilitarianism. Although these two ethical considerations do not have much in common, they are very concerned with trying to determine what actions are right and what actions are wrong when it comes to human actions or human decisions. These are two different approaches that will help us to better understand what is good for us and what is bad for us when it comes to robotic surgery.

Nowadays, technology is a dominant feature in the lives of people around the world. Most of daily life activities involve the use of technology which is expanding every day through scientific innovations. However, such innovations do not always occur in every part of the world, but mostly in technologically developed countries, such as South Korea, the USA and Japan. Presently, the development of robotics science has become a subject of considerable attention in those countries. According to Weng, Chen and Sun (2009, 267), “Technocrats from many developed countries, especially Japan and South Korea, are preparing for the human–robot co-existence society that they believe will emerge by 2030.” The word “robot” was introduced in the beginning of 1920th by the Czech playwright Karel Capek from the Czech word “robota”, meaning “forced labor” (Robertson 2007, 373). According to Robertson (2007, 373), robot, in practical usage, can be defined as an autonomous or semiautonomous device that is used to perform its tasks either controlled by human, fractionally controlled and with human guidance or regardless of external actions that are performed by people. Regrettably, the majority of robots in the past centuries could not operate without human control and intervention. However, the progress in robotics over the past few decades enabled humanity to achieve soaring results in creation of autonomous humanoid robots.
Artificial Intelligence, also known as AI, allows a machine to function as if the machine has the capability to think like a human. While we are not expecting any hovering cars anytime soon, artificial intelligence is projected to have a major impact on the labor force and will likely replace about half the workforce in the United States in the decades to come. The research in artificial intelligence is advancing rapidly at an unstoppable rate. So while many people feel threatened by the possibility of a robot taking over their job, computer scientists actually propose that robots would benefit a country’s efficiency of production, allowing individuals to reap the benefits of the robots. For the advantage of all, researchers and analysts have begun to mend the past ideas of human-robot interaction. They have pulled inspiration from literary works of Isaac Asimov whom many saw as the first roboticist ahead of his time, and have also gotten ideas of scholarly research done by expert analysts. These efforts have began to create an idea of a work force where humans and robots work together in harmony, on a daily basis.
Scientific progress makes huge milestones toward developing new advanced technologies which are more and more present in human lives. Today robots replace people in many spheres such as health care, security and military, industry, education, entertainment and science. Role of robots becomes more significant because they are able to do the job which people are not able to perform well. Since the beginning of time, human beings have been in search of ways to advance life as we know it. Every single day, somewhere in the world, technology is being transformed and an exciting new piece is birthed into society. Perhaps, one of the most influential advances is in our ever evolving medical profession. Thus, as technology continues to change the world as we know it, it is sweeping the medical field right along with it. Surgical procedures are being drastically improved with the use of robotic technology called da Vinci.
It is not ethical to replace human employees with robotic automation and computer-controlled systems. It is important to be mindful, how and when to use robotic automation as robotic automation is useful, when used sparsely. Robots are a problem for humans because, the technology of robots is becoming smarter, more reliable industrial robots and drones that lead to better factory production. It is often cheaper to buy an industrial robot or program than to train a human worker and pay them for their job. The major cost difference of robotic automation is often a major factor in why human jobs are replaced by robots, as with salary and overall price per employ.
In the short story “Runaround”, published in 1942, the author Isaac Asimov introduced Three Laws of Robotics to his readers. Briefly speaking, these laws prohibited a robot from injuring or killing a human being under any condition, even if its owner asked it to do so. However, by the end of year 2008, there were around 12,000 U.S. military robots on the ground in Iraq (Singer, 2011). It seems like the three laws of robotics do not apply to the real world. It is natural to think that the use of military robotics will reduce the casualties of their interested parties, but, in reality, robots can be out of control due to various reasons, including technical errors and unethical commands from programmers or commanders. This article will illustrate the advantages and disadvantages of military robotics in battlefields, and discuss the need for adaptations of ethical rules in a world of artificial intelligence.
Many of the ethical implications of robot technology are based on defining consciousness. Neuroscientists are currently working on the matter (2) however, until then, the conversations regarding the ethics of AI and robotics seem to dead end at this same question. Essentially, we are questioning whether or not to treat these robots as equals or as machines. In conclusion, robots have influenced mankind for many generations. They have changed humans’ lifestyle dramatically by turning it into a more comfortable and safer environment. They contribute in many aspects in people’s lives. For instance, they actively assist in the educational field, military sectors and last but not least, looking after elders. However it seems that, in near future, people would become so dependent on robots, that it would have deprived them from their experience and willingness to a point that they will no longer be able to attempt a simple, mundane task.
