The two articles Why Being a Thinker Means Pocketing your Cell Phone by Todd Leopold and Have smartphones killed boredom by Doug Gross both state valiant reasons to why smartphones and other electronics have changed our everyday lives.

The first article Why Being a Thinker Means Pocketing your Cell Phone by Todd Leopold talks about a fictional story of a man who sat at an office literally doing nothing. At first it may have seemed as though the man was being lazy but the man was actually just sitting there and thinking. He was using his imagination in order to produce new ideas that would enhance the company and increase revenue. This is because on a smartphone you have automatic access to cameras, games, social media, email, and videos. Many people can agree with this because sometimes being bored is unpleasant and we always want to keep ourselves occupied.

In addition, the article also says “fiddling with our phones,... adresses a basic human need to cure boredom by any means necessary. I can agree with this because I always like to keep myself occupied whether it's taking out my cell phone or tapping a pencil I am always looking for a way to clear my boredom.

The article also talks about how we immediately pick up our phones. I have witnessed this happen at a concert before. In which the performers were trying to hype up the crowd but instead of everyone going along with it and dancing, people stood still phone in hand recording instead. I believe that smartphones have also caused people to lack the ability to live in the moment. In conclusion, the article is trying to tell us to live in the moment and allow ourselves to get bored. So, that we can truly connect with the people and things around
