The reason that the Vietnam War was one of the most unpopular wars in American history is that the United States fought a war for someone else by using their men and money. Besides the losses of the highly-trained soldiers and money, America was also in the unwinnable situation. First, they fought on the unfamiliar territory; unlike any other wars in Europe, Vietnam War was mostly fought in the forest, jungle, and Viet Cong used the “hit and run” technique which gave the American soldiers a huge trouble to deal with. Second, not only did the American soldiers die for nothing in Vietnam War, but innocent Vietnamese civilians, who were protected and fought along with American soldiers, also died in the war. Therefore, Vietnam War was also made the United States look like an evil imperialist. Third, even if the United States won the war, there was no guarantee that the ideology of Communism would stop spreading out. Additionally, there was a large amount of Americans protest the war. That was a huge budgets that American wasted on the Vietnam War. However, United States did not only lose their money, but they also lost their well-trained troops. A lot of soldiers, poet writers, musicians, and other American protested against the American government about the Vietnam War because U.S. government did not want to stop the war. The song “I Feel Like I’m Fixin’ To Die Rag” by Country Joe was one of the anti-Vietnam War songs. There is a repeating paragraph throughout the song:
“And it’s 1,2,3 what are we fightin’ for?
Don’t ask me I don’t give a damn, the next stop is Vietnam,
And it’s 5,6,7 open up the pearly gates.
