Are you familiar with the Tyler Clemti story? He was a normal student attending Rutgers University in New Jersey. Tyler, after learning that a video was streamed live on the internet committed suicide by jumping off a bridge. The video contained images of him and another male engaging in sexual relations. This is just one of the many horrific stories that you hear that comes from Cyber bullying. The older generation considered bullying when one was pushed, hit, taunted, and name called. With the technology that we have readily available today, bullying has made its way into the media that we have come to know as Cyber Bullying. Today’s society has found an avenue that tunnels angry and miserable people to hurt unsuspecting victims.
Cyber bullying is when a person threatens another via the internet, or other communication devise. It can be used to harm others for fun or malicious purposes. Cyber bullying is actual bullying. There is always hurt involved wither it be emotional or physical. It can lead to suicide and even death of others. There are many ways that a person can be harmed. One can use videos of an individual, and even use false names, deceiving victims as they perpetrate them.
Perpetrator, Coward, what ever you want to call him, he is the public enemy. Sadly he is everywhere, (I will refer the Public Enemy, as he). He is everywhere, if you want to join a fraternity and or a sorority in the University, he’s there. At jobs, there are those that feel the need to carry out dumb and ridiculous actions that will hurt and harm others. It happens in the military every day. Such an incident would have been impossible -- or at least much less likely -- 20 years ago, Natrona County Dist. Atty. Mike Blonigen said. "It's probably only possible in our modern age.” Don’t forget that even though you cannot see a cyber bully, or a cyber bully’s victim, it’s real. There is a need to prevent this danger and get help. There are many out there that want to hurt us, even those we don’t know. Never share your personal information; never meet face to face with someone that you don’t know that you met online. Let those close to you know where you are and what you are doing on line. Most importantly protect your loved ones from this dangerous enemy. Don’t forget that once you upload information on the internet, it stays there, one can say that “If you wouldn’t say it in person, don’t say it online”.
