Movies and books can be very different in many ways. The Outsiders was written in 1967 by S.E. Hinton and was later made into a movie in 1983. The movie version of the book had to cut out scenes and change things that ended up creating several differences between the two. The main focus will be the plot of the Outsiders in the book versus in the movie. There are many differences between the book and the movie.

The movie lacks a lot of insight onto the other characters in the book, it mostly focuses on Ponyboy. For example, in the movie there was a lack of detail on characters such as Darry and Sodapop even Dally. Dally was a major character in the book but his death in the movie seemed a bit minor because there wasn’t much detail for viewers to get attached to his character. I felt as if his death was glazed over and easily forgotten in the movie while in the book it was described for at least two pages.

The plot of the Outsiders in my opinion is that not everything can stay the same and be there forever like Robert Frost’s poem. In the movie I felt as if the poems context was lost and mixed in with the other events like Johnny’s death. Yes, Johnny’s death was important but I think the director should have made a scene elaborating more on the poem’s meaning. In …show more content…

His character in the book was very significant to the storyline of the book. He helped the story move along. He did this when he went into save Johnny and Pony from the church fire. One thing the movie did bring a light to was Dally’s emotional state during, before and after Johnny’s death. The movie did add on the scene of Dally asking Two-Bit for his switchblade and lying in the bed with it and crying. Another character who was portrayed differently was Johnny Cade.
