Tired, stressed, and overworked after a long day of school is something that’s ignored when it comes to students of all ages. Homework provides a heavy load that can add additional stress and time on a student’s shoulders. Schools should be making sure that students are receiving enough work throughout the day, to make sure kids don’t have the worry of homework when school is over. Students who receive lots of homework, may not have enough time to enjoy their families as much in the evenings, including time to enjoy themselves, watch movies, play around, and just being a kid. When it is time for students to come home from school, it’s time for them to relax, enjoy family time and get ready for the next day. Kids spend approximately only 8 hours with their families a week including weekends (Jaymi Mccann). School is already eight hours in one day, so why add additional work. Today’s families are becoming so occupied with things such as work, school, and practices, which leaves very little time left for families to bond and spend time with each other. Standardized test, and the changes in math, are making it a lot harder for students to receive help from their parents on homework. Which then leads to very high amounts of stress, and fights amongst the family, because the work has to be done and turned in. Teachers are even having to fight with parents, because school will continue to move on and then students may fall further behind. Things have changed in this day in age, where parents are working more than ever, and a money is a necessity to make a living. Now according to Sara Bennet “The concept of the parent-teacher partnership is not new. In 1994, when the Goals 2000: Educate America Act was signed into law, one of its eight goals stated, "Every school will promote partnerships that will increase parental involvement and participation in promoting the social, emotional, and academic growth of children” (2).
