Looking for Alaska by John Green, published in 2005 by Dutton Children's Books is a young adult fiction book. The theme of the book in my opinion is The Labyrinth of suffering. Throughout the book Miles suffers, he suffers while looking for his “Great Perhaps”, he suffers by not not knowing if Alaska will ever love him back, and Miles and his friends suffer after losing Alaska. I very well enjoyed the book, it gave an honest relation to teenagers and the over mature and intelligent minds of the characters. Green succeeded in captivating his audience with a great storyline and plot twist. Miles lives in a middle class boring life with his parents in Florida. In the classic vignette, A Summer Life, Gary Soto addresses his childhood to adulthood in Fresno in the course of a short vivid chapters. Born on April 12, 1952, a year before the Korean War ended, Gary experiences his life in Fresno of what he describes “what I knew best was at ground level,” and learns what is going on around the neighborhood with his religious background behind him. Later, when he realizes his father passes away, he undergoes hardships which cause his family to be miserable. Growing up in the heart of Fresno, Gary Soto, the author, explains his journey as a young man to adolescence through his use of figurative language and other adventures. The settings of this book revise Gary’s action and feelings around his surroundings.
Miles Pruitt is the center of this story; he is going through life in attempt to avoid the hardships it throws at him. He has to cope with the misfortunes that come with love, and by the end of the story, Miles will finally come to realize that his decisions to go through life untouched will not pay off.

Deciding to leave her home in Pittman County, Kentucky she was the one to get away, both in mind and body. The culture of where she grew up didn't fit her personality, and she decided she wouldn't let herself fall into the life of the other people in her town. Throughout his life, Dante Alighieri faced many hardships and accumulated many rivals, stemming from his association with the Florentine White Guelphs, who adamantly believed in the independence from the papacy. After being exiled from his home city of Florence on false allegations of being a grafter, he wrote The Inferno, a religious allegory, in which Alighieri blatantly attacks many of his rivals, among them Filippo Argenti and Bocca degli Abbati through use of literary devices as dialogue, imagery, juxtaposition, diction, tone and characterization. However, Alighieri does not show resentment towards all the sinners in his epic poem, he fluctuates between hostility and benevolence. In one specific case, Alighieri shows a sense of pity and compassion towards a specific sinner, one guilty of sodomy, Ser Brunetto Latino. Alighieri’s compassion derives from his great admiration for the fellow writer who had been a lifelong inspiration. His compassion is shown through the utilization of diction, dialogue, and imagery. Alighieri integrates many techniques in his writings to deliver his judgment of the sinners, fluctuating between feelings of hostility and benevolence.
This was Nick’s problem but worse since he was just in the same place a rut in his road and he was going nowhere. Traffic is a drama about the consequences and ironies that happen all the time in the drug dealing business. It presents various situations in which almost everyone is involved with drug problems. A few examples of what happened in the movie showed the American anti-drugs czar's daughter consuming drugs, a known businessman in Los Angeles revealed as drug dealers, poor truck drivers trafficking drugs to the US because of the need for money, and of course the leaders of the drug cartel in Mexico. The main characters are the anti-drugs czar in the United States and his family, two Mexican cops, Carlos Ayala (drug dealer) and his wife, a Mexican colonel responsible of the fight against drugs, and a pair of American cops. Traffic tries to denote the importance of doing something about drugs in our society because, just as shown in it, almost everyone can become involved in the world's largest business, and once you are in, you can never get out of it.
Mary Wroth alludes to mythology in her sonnet “In This Strange Labyrinth” to describe a woman’s confused struggle with love. The speaker of the poem is a woman stuck in a labyrinth, alluding to the original myth of Theseus and the Minotaur. The suggestion that love is not perfect and in fact painful was a revolutionary thing for a woman to write about in the Renaissance. Wroth uses the poem’s title and its relation to the myth, symbolism and poem structure to communicate her message about the tortures of love.

Suffering can be defined as an experience of discomfort suffered by a person during his life. The New York Times published an article entitled what suffering does, by David Brooks (2014). In this article, Brooks explains how suffering plays an important role in our pursuit of happiness. He explains firstly that happiness is found through experiences and then, suffering can also be a motivation in our pursuit of happiness. In other words, suffering is a fearful but necessary gift to acquire happiness. This paper is related to motivation and emotion, two keys words to the pursuit of happiness (King, 2010).

Borges fascinates his audience with his analysis of reality. He combines fact and fiction to create the perfect genre of mystery. His characters’ conquest for the unknown defines his use of detective fiction.
