Young Writers of Kern Essay Society is a community of people who share common civic duties. Society is something everyone is a part of, it is basic human nature to crave to be a part of something. This is why people will attain a certain civic responsibility, which might include advocating for various causes such as economic or environmental issues. This social responsibility is what holds American communities together. To be socially responsible in American society means to donate to communities, to incorporate ethics and morals into everyday life and to be aware of public issues and put in an effort to solve them. Individuals in today’s society have a need to be validated by others or themselves, this is why they will join fundraisers and Social responsibility is choosing to follow whatever system of ethics will not harm the community, like in the article by the Pachamama Alliance, which explains,”...in which individuals are accountable for fulfilling their civic duty; the actions of an individual must benefit the whole of the society.” It is a citizen's civic duty to be sure they are not going against common morals. If the equipoise between the economy, the environment, and the benefit of society is maintained then social responsibility has been As Jennifer Self wrote in relation to civic responsibility , “It is comprised of actions and attitudes associated with democratic governance and social participation.” Civic responsibility consists of participation in church, volunteer work, and in the government. When people come together with a sense of common purpose for their community’s common good they are showing an interest in helping out others. In one instance the people of Bakersfield, California all came together to donate two semi-trucks full of needed goods to Hurricane Harvey victims in Texas, as reported by Elizabeth Sanchez. It is amazing what a community can do when all of its citizens come together for the greater good. Some may argue that social responsibility is what will help to benefit the individual over the community. While in some instances people might be more self inclined, most people have a certain sense of morals and ethics that tell them to put other people before themselves. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics “About 62.6 million people volunteered through or for an organization at least once between September 2014 and September 2015.” Statistics show that people do feel the need to help out others.
