Who would anybody be without courage? All of the characters from the story Anne Frank -The VanDaans, The Franks, Mr. Dussel, Miep, and Mr. Kraler- would be miserable if they did not have any courage. Granted, some people are braver than others, but at some point, each and every person in The Diary Anne Frank had to have courage in the situations that they were in. The Holocaust was a difficult time for everyone; some people were forced to have more courage than others given the circumstances. The people from the story were fortunate, but they still had to face their fair share of conflicts among themselves. They had to sacrifice their place to many others -sometimes strangers, their food, and their privacy. At some point all the people in the family dreaded that they allowed so many people into the annex with them, and it caused conflict between the families as well as among family members. An example was when Mrs. Frank lost her temper on Mr. Van Daan and said things like “ I’ve watched you day after day and held my tongue. But not any longer! Not after this! Now I want you them to go! I want him to get out of here!” (620) That is a prime example of how people change when they are locked in the same room, because before the Franks went into hiding, Mrs. Frank would have never snapped on somebody the way that she did. During this time in history, Hitler had all of the Jewish people taken to concentration camps and did unimaginable horrible things to them, so that’s why all the Jews were either taken to the camps, fled to other countries, or went into hiding like the Frank family did. Just being the race that they were took courage alone. Anne and the rest of the family had to have courage and be brave because they wouldn’t have survived through the war if they were cowardly and fearful about where their next meal was coming from or if they were going to be caught in hiding. The Franks also had to give each other courage and keep positive thoughts, even if they did not
Despite several notable contrasts between Anne Frank’s life presented in the play, “The Diary of Anne Frank,” and other accounts of Jewish people in hiding during World War II, the lives of these Jews had more similarities than differences. These people were similar in the way that they lived the same schedule every day. Anne and the other Jews relied on their helpers, who risked their lives willingly, to provide food and other human necessities for them, as well as tried to include aspects of their old lives before the Holocaust into their new lives in hiding. Another important issue that the author brings up is the fact that the Franks were better informed than other Jews about the extirmination camps. The other Jews had no knowledge about these camps, making it a little bit more reasonable for the others to want to stick together as a family. The Franks, however, knew this and they still did nothing to prepare for the Nazis. The author also had some ideas for the Franks to prepare for the invasion when the Nazis came, even though they stayed together. He suggested that Mr. Frank could have had some form of protection, such as a gun; Mr. Frank could have tried to detain the police when they came, while his family could try to run to safety. Sure, Mr. Frank would have been killed of beaten, but he could have done a better job of protecting his family.
Anne's optimistic personality created the hope that she had for her future. Each day she could do nothing but just hope that one day everything will turn around and be better. In The Diary Of Anne Frank play, she expressed, "It'll pass, maybe not for hundreds of years, but someday..." Deep down inside, she had the hope that all of the disgusting things that Hitler alongside his army performed, would all vanish one day. She knew for the most part that the hatred may never go away, but imagining that it might, made things at least a bit better. Anne's situation was pure negativity, with almost nothing good about it. The only good thing that may have come out of it for her were the relationships that she created with everyone in hiding with her. From the Van Daans, to Miep, she bonded amazing friendships with each person involved. Aside from that, Anne's personality stuck out more than anyone's because of the hope that she had, in such a terrible situation.
The Holocaust was a time in which millions of people were persecuted and mistreated: people banned together and stood up against prejudice and discrimination by actively and passively opposing the Germans. Citizens that actively resisted used violence and force to directly attack the Nazis in attempt to save their life. Those that preferred, prepared to resist passively by not using physical brutality, but instead continued their daily lives out of the sight of the Nazis. In “The Diary of Anne Frank,” we see how Meip, a Dutch Citizen resisted the Germans passively, by hiding the Frank family and four other Jewish families in a secret annex above Anne’s father's business premise during World War Two. In Anne Frank: Diary of a Young Girl and Dear Miss Breed, all of the main characters used a mix of hope and courage to solve the problems they were facing. Anne Frank, was a teenager who hid from the Nazis because she was Jewish. In my English class we were learning about Anne Frank and her life during the Holocaust. During the Holocaust, many people, mostly Jews lost their lives; Anne was one of the 6 million Jews who died. Before her family and everyone else were taken to concentration camps Anne liked writing in her diary. After the war Anne father the only one in their family that survived received Anne’s diary from Miep, the caretaker of the families while they were hiding. One of the most eye catching quotes of Anne’s was” I believe people are really good at heart”, I believe Anne when she says that.
I told you why Anne had felt this way during her ordeal, and what this reveals about her character and her views about life. Anne is a strong and heroic young girl who has a heart for others and she is very compassionate towards others. Which is a great quality to have in that time period she was going through? No one could have done it better than Anne. She helped people look at the good in the situations she was never the one mention the negative things. You think how you would react to this situation. The “Diary of Anne Frank” is a real diary written by Anne Frank, during the time of the Holocaust. She describes her days hiding in a secret annex with seven other people. Some days they got along and others they didn’t, but in the end they all respected each other. In the “Diary of Anne Frank,” Anne Frank says, “ I still believe, in spite of everything, that people are really good at heart.” This message serves as a theme throughout the diary. Throughout the diary, she explains how the people she spent her days with were good people at heart.
Compassion is very different from courage. Compassion means when you care for people.it also means your caring for people that don’t deserve it. Mr. Frank is caring for the Van Daan’s and gave them a place to hide. He let them live in the Secret Annex with them. Mr. Frank did not half to let them do the, but he did because he is a caring person to everybody. Everyday, their lives are filled with darkness and degeneracy. The whole world’s scared and they decide to swallow the fear. Growing up in a wartime environment isn’t easy at all. All of their lives have been mistreated, misplaced, misunderstood. Yet, Anne Frank still believes that people are good at heart.
Anne is one of the hopeful with fear. In The Diary of Anne Frank, on page 10 in Act I she writes,“A few days ago, Father began to talk about going into hiding. He said it would be very hard for us to live cut off from the rest of the world. He sounded so serious I felt scared.” Even though Anne had strong hope, she got scared of what was going on. Reality will strike in everyone, and it will scare almost everyone. This is where fear comes from.
The autobiography book, “The Diary of a Young Girl”, is a collection of Dutch diary entries authored by Anne Frank, a 13-year-old Jewish girl who lived through the atrocities of the Anti-Semitist German Nazi Regime. Beginning on June 14, 1942, the diary, which Anne named “Kitty”, vividly depicts fear-filled stories of the Franks and other Jews in evading racial annihilation.
