“What is career day, mom?” My brother asked one day after school. My mom replied, “Career day is a day where you eighth graders get to shadow somebody.” She replied, “you get to see what a day in their career is like.” The moment after I had heard my mom explain to my brother what career day was, I got excited. I knew exactly who I would shadow, years later, when I was in eighth grade- a veterinarian. My whole life, I have had this enthusiastic love for animals of any kind. I would treat any kind of animal as if it were a person. I treat our cats like they’re my children, and I love them with my whole heart. In my eyes, nothing would be better than to have a job working with animals every single day. Although I knew that I wanted very badly to be a veterinarian, I didn’t know much about veterinarians.

Mary Kramer said that being a vet can be very stressful, dealing with upset clients, aggressive pets, and seeing severe injuries. Being a vet requires lots of patience, because they will go through difficult situations. “Pet owners might get offended or don't always listen to your advice, and it can be frustrating” (Biasillo). You might think that to be a veterinarian, you just need to be able to work with animals, but in reality, it’s just as important working with people than working with the animals (Biasillo). Being a vet is also very tiring, even when you don’t work late, because you’re constantly seeing animals or managing phone calls (Biasillo). Despite all of those down sides of being a vet, there are many positive things about being a vet.
