In recent years, diversity has become a popular topic in today's society. Whether it is justified or not, it is prevalent because it is a main factor that influences people across the world. Diversity has effects and influences in your social groups, schools, jobs, and any where where human interaction is seen. However, this diversity can provide a well-needed insight onto a topic, or an abrupt concealment in oneself. With this, to what extent is diversity beneficial.
A major scene where diversity is seen is at schools. In some schools, they seek out diversity because it brings educational benefits. For instance, at the University of Michigan Law School, they say that diversity leads to the “breakdown of racial stereotypes” and “enables students …show more content…

In communities, diversity has the ability can set others apart and further strengthen racial divides. In a study of over 30,000 people across the US by Harvard political scientist, Robert Putnam, diversity leads to less community involvement such as voting, volunteering, and charity. Moreover, people trust their neighbors about half as much compared to a homogenous setting (source C). This study directly contradicts the message of, our differences make us stronger. So in these communities, diversity is not beneficial, but a drawback. So in this, diversity is not beneficial, but a drawback, in communities. Nevertheless, if people in communities put aside their racial differences, they are more likely to expand their own understanding of the world they live in. According to Ali Noorani in source C, these findings can not be ignored, we must figure out what are the next steps. Along with Noorani’s idea, for diversity to be beneficial in communities, people must find the steps in order to improve relations among neighbors. Don't hunker down in your house, but go out and become acquainted to those around you, you might even learn a few things. Alternatively to our community, how does diversity affect people in the workplace.
