SUPPORTING READING THROUGH PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT In this world, we are blessed with gift to fulfill our needs in community, church, and families. Children are gift from God. They are angles that were brought in to this Earth to take care and be well educated for better future. In order for children to become well-educated, they have to be successful in reading. If children cannot read words-by-words and understanding it’s meaning, they cannot achieve in other content areas such as Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, and Health. What if children can read? They can understand how to solve word problems, summarize a short story, explain history of their country, and perform science activities. Reading is very important to learn in school and at home. In school, there are effective teachers who worked hard to teach children how to decode words, sound out letters, read fluent, accuracy, and comprehend stories. But, can these effective teachers do the whole job alone? Who are the important supporters in children’s educational life? Parents played an essential role in every child’s educational life. Parents are children’s first teacher to teach them how to say words, sing songs, and counting numbers. “Parental involvement is an important factor in children’s literacy development” (Rasinski, 2003, p. 1). Review of Literature This literature review was compiled to investigate the question: what effective strategies in reading can be utilized by parents to second grade students to assist and improve their children’s reading fluency? When a child was a baby, both mother and father read aloud short story, poetry and nursery rhymes to make them feel the spirit of learning to reading. Conclusions Communication and Collaborative among educators and parents can increase the child’s reading skills. It is the educators and parent’s job to find effective strategies that promote children’s reading. By working together, students will achieve more in educational life and it will be the greatest memories for teachers and parents to celebrate. Reading build up everything we write learn in other content areas such as science, math, and so forth. If children cannot read, their educational life will not succeed and reading performance fall below grade level. Providing reading skills in the early age of children will encourage them to read and succeed throughout their educational life.
