Guidelines To Facilitate Leadership And Peacemaking At Sunshine Elementary School Introduction “Leadership is a relationship between those who aspire to lead and those who choose to follow” (Kouzes and Posner, p. 30). Over the past two years, Sunshine Elementary School has experienced an extremely high turnover rate. To reduce and improve past destruction, staff will learn to model the way by demonstrating the values set forth by myself. The values are the standard that will assist in the development of an organization filled with a variety of leadership that will create an atmosphere of a superb leadership growth school wide. Sunshine Elementary School (SES) is the pilot for this leadership development blueprint for Pflugerville Independent …show more content…
People describe their personal-best leadership experiences as times when they imagined an exciting, highly attractive future for their organizations” (Kouzes and Posner, p. 17). Through leadership development, SES staff will uncover that life occurs with or without him or her, nevertheless we are here as a disciple for one another. Discovering this will produce a staff with a shared vision of serving one another to achieve explicit education and ministry for the students. This is the commission from Jesus when he stated, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,” (Matthew 28:19, …show more content…
19). At Sunshine Elementary School, I propose that the staff set aside monies raised in a special fundraiser each year to have a three day, two night bonding escapade with current and incoming staff two weeks before the fall session begins. By implementing this, I become in agreement with Kouzes &Posner (2012) in stating that, “Leaders venture out; they do not sit idly by waiting for fate to smile on them” (p. 19). The lessons obtained through the Kouzes and Posner (2010), “The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership” are invaluable and will assist in creating an environment where conflicts are minimal and the high turnover rate has ceased to exist (p. 17-28). Throughout this unknown process mistakes are probable, however, being conscious of how to communicate what went wrong and sharing ideas of improved solutions is key to this
The topic of leadership has been explored and written about by thousands of authors who are considerably more qualified than I am to write about the subject. However, I’ve always maintained that developing, evolving and articulating one’s own leadership philosophy is an essential part of a professional’s growth. Through academics and experience, I’ve concluded that leadership is a “soft” skill, more art than science, and that leadership principles can be universally applied. As a topic of discussion, leadership can be ambiguous and seldom does everyone agree on a single definition. Organizations and the people they consist of crave leadership, even if not overtly. Undeniably, strong leadership is essential to achieving

She started her career as a teacher in the Kirkwood School District. When it comes to Pleviak Elementary School we take leadership very seriously. I spoke with the assistant Principal at Pleviak Nikki Gardner about the leadership framework at Pleviak and at Round Lake Area School District 116. During our talk we discussed how Pleviak uses a distributed leadership framework where decision making is spread across a variety of committees. These committees are then led by a variety of teachers in the building. There are a total of eleven committees that cover a wide range of areas. We also discussed the district leadership team. It is called the School Improvement Leadership Team (SILT) that consists of three to four staff members from each building in the district and they have monthly meetings about facilitating district initiatives that will help meet the district goals.
The Leadership Challenge by Kouzes and Posner (2007) is the result of twenty years of research on the factors that influence and create great leadership. Through studies and stories from leaders with various backgrounds throughout the world, the practices and characteristics that create great leadership are delineated. Leadership is viewed not as a group of inherent characteristics, but as learned behavior that anyone can achieve. The goal of Kouzes and Posner’s book is to inspire and educate leaders through transformational leadership. As such, leadership is about mobilizing others to become and do extraordinary things.
Although written for church leadership, everyday church members would also benefit from understanding the concepts that Dawn is directing at God-empowered leaders. Ms. Dawn's work is predominantly scholarly, and she cites several other works at great length.... ... middle of paper ... ...
Chad Miller, manager of Buffalo Wild Wings in Dubuque, excellently showcases leadership characteristics each time I work with him. Throughout my one and a half years working underneath him, I have witnessed many great exchanges of leadership from Chad to customers, employees, and his other managers. He remains professional, shows his passion for the sports within the restaurant, as well as the food and atmosphere, clearly communicates effectively, and has inspired many people to move up within the company. However, another great example of leadership comes from the Director of Student Life, Diversity, and Leadership of Northeast Iowa Community College, Kara Popp. She exudes professionalism, while maintaining a light atmosphere during the time I work with her. Her communication style clearly shows her passion for the school by consistently instilling excitement and enthusiasm into her audiences. As president underneath of Kara, I have transformed into a proper leader. Although my previous leadership experience, as an 18 year old manager at a McDonald’s restaurant, showed my immaturity throughout my tenure, but beca...
Change. It comes in all forms- genuine and inferior, melancholy and exceptional, and it needs to come to Pine Grove Elementary. The form of change in this occasion is the Mental Health Availability at Pine Grove Elementary. While many have claimed that the needs of therapists are much more dire in Middle and High School, many sixth graders feel that Pine Grove Elementary has a need for counseling that is not being addressed. While Parker, Colorado seems to be reasonably free of school shootings, horrible accidents, or any kind of dramatic catastrophe that we read about daily in the news, elementary children in Parker are not reasonably free of home issues, post-traumatic stress, and social issues. Having a better therapy system at Pine Grove will change the elementary years of many children who attend this school.
Leaders is an effective tool for summarizing and inspiring leadership, not in that it teaches tough strategies and manipulations, but that when looking at an overview of its content, Bennis and Nanus are essentially teaching human relations and human decency. All in all, this book highlights strategies for us all to be better in our lives and our everyday interactions.
Leadership at times can be a complex topic to delve into and may appear to be a simple and graspable concept for a certain few. Leadership skills are not simply acquired through position, seniority, pay scale, or the amount of titles an individual holds but is a characteristic acquired or is an innate trait for the fortunate few who possess it. Leadership can be misconstrued with management; a manager “manages” the daily operations of a company’s work while a leader envisions, influences, and empowers the individuals around them.
Leadership within Christian community should be with distinct qualities and traits of an effective Christian leader. The author defined leadership by not focusing on profit when Christ said, “Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all.” The author explored the leadership qualities and practices that are not only distinct within the community of Christian leadership but also applicable in any arena of leadership. Significance comes from working with associates and friends. Similarly, the joy of success comes from the journey toward it than its accomplishment. Grace-full leader is a responsive leader who allows an organization to discontinue practices that are no longer effective and replace them with other good ideas and effective methods.
One of the topics in organizational development today is leadership. Leadership is what individuals do to mobilize other people in organizations and communities. According to Kouzes & Posner, there are five practices and ten commitments of exemplary leadership. The five practices of exemplary leadership include: Model the way, inspire a shared vision, challenge the process, enable others to act, and encourage the heart. In the Leadership Challenge, Kouzes and Posner found similar patterns and actions of leadership that created the essentials to achieve success. Utilizing the research conducted by Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner, I have created a leadership plan that would apply to the Admission Department at Texas Wesleyan University.

Administrative leaders must have a clear vision of their school, a plan for getting there, and an ability to communicate effectively their mission and goals to the learning community. Leaders must recognize how to achieve the process of change by challenging well-established beliefs and behaviors of the community. Encourage resistors to adapt to innovative ideas in the school community. Dr. Hunter clearly articulated goals to all stakeholders in all aspects of the school culture. The unstructured interview analysis will describe leadership styles and roles, curriculum development, and evaluation methods.
