Heartaches: Bad Boy Vibes by H.M. Irwing is a romance novel about a young woman Anna Walters-Simmons. Anna’s step father passes away and she lives in fear of her brother Brian Simmons who came into her life when she was young. The men in her immediate family are abusive. Anna’s mother Jane Simmons had been abused by her second husband. Anna had witnessed the abuse from her step-father towards her mother while growing up. Anna lives in fear of her brother and wants to be there to support her mother. Anna is attending college and meets her first boyfriend Matt Preston. Matt is good looking and the first male in her life that makes her feel happy and she wants to please him. During a night out with Matt, Anna becomes a victim of abuse. In shock, she doesn’t know what to do and doesn’t tell anyone. Rafael “Rafe” Luis Brown, is in the military and has recently come home after fighting in Syria. He has his own dark secrets and when he sees Anna he immediately sees in her eyes the same battle of secrets that he carries. He becomes a man she can open-up to and trust. It was easy for me to read start to finish. The story really kept my attention because I wanted to know what had happened to Rafe and I wanted Anna to overcome what happened to her. I started reading and didn’t put the book down until it was over. When I read a romantic book, I want to be able to connect with the main characters and this book was easy to have empathy for the characters. I was really sad for Rafe and the things he endured. I think Anna and Rafe are perfect for each other and when combined with the romance it was even better. I did like the romance parts but I really enjoyed the growing relationship between Anna and
