What is Art Art has been around as long as humans have. It has been treasured by every race and respected for many generations. It is the universal language that has no barriers; people of all different ethnicities and languages can interpret the same piece of art. All art that is created shares two common parts; it has a purpose and it is an original piece. Original in this context means that the creator did something that no one has previously done. For example, Bansky, a famous international street artist, created stencil art on the walls and sidewalks of cities. In addition, the purpose of art is for the creator to express ideas, feelings or get the audience to react to a piece. This can be seen in Banskys street art since he expresses his political agenda through humorous works of art. Anyone can decide what art is as long as it communicates an idea and is an original piece. “ All works of art…have some common quality” which is a purpose and a unique idea (Dean 29). The motivation behind art is that it gives the author “the ability to show and tell” the emotions behind the piece (Wallach 2). They can express their thoughts and ideas through a work of art to either get their point across or to get the audience to react. The next important part for something to be considered art is that it has to be original. It has to be an idea or concept that the artist came up with on his or her own. This is imperative because anyone can copy what someone else did but only an artist can create something new. Art is not confined only to paintings or drawings. It can also be dancing, writing and music. Since, the range of art is very large, it brings up the question if anyone can be an artist. There are no restrictions on who can be an arti... ... middle of paper ... ...to inform the audience about the harsh reality of bullying. Art can have many different definitions to people all over the world. But the two consistent things that all art has to have are, a purpose and be original. Anyone can make art, weather it is a book, drawing or theater, but for it to be considered art it has to have those two traits. An example, Banksy’s drawing in Tribeca of the Twin Towers is an example of art. He clearly sends a message with that drawing, that the city of New York still remembered the traumatic event but is looking towards the future with hope. Also, this stencil drawing is an original, which is another reason why it is considered art. Another street artist similar to Banksy is Mr. Brainwash. He also has a purpose behind is art, which is to get the audience to react to his work rather then expressing his political ideas like Banksy.
Art, unlike other words cannot be characterized by one simple definition; the meaning of art is much more than a surface level interpretation. Over many centuries, art has proved to be a way people can express themselves, plays a role in shaping cultures, and allows for communication through many different ways of expression. Art can either take a lifetime to study or can be as straightforward as graffiti on the side of a popular building. The topic of art has been largely controversial dating back to Mo Tzu, and the wide dispute has only evolved over centuries. There are ways to examine the different realms art touches, and how it has evolved over time. While art is widely discussed in many forms, one thing is for sure, art provides an outlet
The identity of a graffiti artist is hardly ever known, but the style of the art is. They can be identified by the way they express themselves. It can be broad and can be shown in many different forms. The forms can range from a simple tag of identity, an expression of protest and politics, to an alluring scene of art work. Although the graffiti writers work is their expression; they are trying to convey a message about the issues in the world around them.
When using the words “street art” to describe someone’s work, you are generally stating that their art is displayed for the public eye to see, and could be used through graffiti, stickers, posters, sculptures, or even video projections. Street artists’ main focus is to reach out to the public presenting something with ample amount of meaning without restrictions from the formal art world. The anonymity of street art interests me because I find it more expressive than formal artwork. I see it as a way to get people’s attention in an altered condition and getting their point across (whether it requires thought or is obviously stated). Some major street artists that we will focus on are Blek le Rat, Banksy, and Dolk. All of these street artists are European based artists, but some occasionally travel to America to express their talent through graffiti. These mentioned visual artists are known for using stencil graffiti, which uses cardboard or other media cut into an image to make it easily reproducible.
If I were to ask you what is art, and how can one find it? What would you say? Well if it were me being asked those question, I would simply say that art to me is a form of a picture; a visual painting or model of some design and it could be found all among us. You may define it differently only because art could be defined in many ways. I could simply say that art to me is a form of a picture; a visual painting or model of some design. Well according to an article written by Shelley Esaak, an art history expert she mentioned that art has a way of stimulating different parts of our brains to make us laugh or incite us to riot, with a whole gamut of emotions in between. She also mentioned that art gives us a way to be creative and express ourselves. [1]
His style greatly differs from the traditional graffiti on a wall and he evens sends out a message that isn't just his name. His art seems to have some positive comments on promotional culture, like in his works in East New York. Banksy shows the pro's of promotional art, without being a sellout, degrading anyone or being negative. His residency in New York has been well appreciated besides being negatively talked down by the mayor as well as others for being graffiti. Many people argued what is art and if Banksy is even a real artist.
Art is an expression of feelings, body language, and culture produced by humans. Art can be expressed in many different ways, and in many different forms from time to time! You’d be amazed with the different types of skilled work artists come up with each day and it’s all just someone, one person expressing how they feel or what they believe. One form of art that I find very interesting is Fauvism.
Art is a form of communication through drawings or images. It shows symbolism, emotion, and personality through strokes of a paint brush. Art requires the passion to draw what you see the world as, and the want to show the world what you made. Art is a career that many people don’t do because they fear failure. Though some people are right it is not as easy as it looks, but neither is it impossible.
Although other artists know who he is, Banksy doesn’t have a public face that he shows at galleries and in his documentaries. In Will Ellsworth-Jones article “The Story Behind Banksy: on his way to becoming an international icon, the subversive and secretive street artist turned the art world upside-down” he talks about one of Banksy’s earlier galleries. Ellsworth-Jones says “The show was a high-profile demonstration of the phenomenon that has come to be known as the ‘Banksy effect’—the artist’s astounding success in bringing urban, outsider art into the cultural, and increasingly profitable, mainstream” (2). Banksy’s “effect” is altering urban culture and bringing it to art galleries to be displayed and sold. In the grand scheme of things, he is commodifying graffiti and urban culture, making it more consumable and then proceeding selling and profit off of it. In A&E’s biography page for Banksy they state that Banksy’s work is unique due to the fact that it “often engages political themes, satirically critiquing war, capitalism, hypocrisy and greed.” The uniqueness of his work is a common reason different news outlets give for Banksy’s success. Contrary to popular belief, Banksy’s content isn’t groundbreaking. Artists of all mediums, including graffiti, before and during his time have touched upon all of the same themes as
Art became a way to speak out against oppression and inequalities regarding gender, race or class. Judy Chicago showed the women’s role in culture at the time through her art. She was part of the feminist movement at the time and art was an outlet for her to be able to get people to see through her eyes. Banksy a British street artist focuses on politics and issues that affect people around the world. Most of his works are satirical and filled with irony.
At the end of the day, people should stop underestimating graffiti art. Banksy, in his book, “Banging Your Head Against A Brick Wall,” said “Graffiti is one of the few tools you have if you have almost nothing. And even if you don't come up with a picture to cure world poverty you can make someone smile while they're having a piss.” Graffiti work should be admired by everyone else because it holds so many significance whether it's only a phrase or a sketch. People shouldn't just absentmindedly assume it as the worst thing ever or as an awful thing. I agree that it can be vandalism to the public but graffiti can also be made in many other places legally so why think of it in the dark side? People should take care on how they are judging the striking art behind graffiti and criticizing it without really evaluating all the great meaning behind it.
Generally speaking artist typically use their form of artwork to pass along their viewpoints or feelings. It is the creation that lets the observer interpret art any way that they see it because interpreting it solely depends on the person’s past experiences, their thoughts, culture and associations. In addition to allowing the artist
Human’s have always struggled to express themselves. Art, is considered by many to be the ultimate form of human expression. Many assume that art has a definition, but this is not the case. Art, it can be said, is “in the eye of the beholder.” This simply means that what you consider art, someone else would not. Art is part of a person’s internal emotions, which signifies why different people see art as different things. Every type of culture and era presents distinctive and unique characteristics. Different cultures all have different views of what art can, and would be, causing art itself to be universally renowned throughout the world.
Art is an expressive form of creativity and expression. Art involves the basic elements and principles that aid to form paintings, sculptures, and other forms of artwork.
The arts is to create something new and unique to the world, maybe to help better understand something unknown or different; it’s bringing new and old things back to life or painting
Art can be defined in many ways by an individual. One can say that any creative output by a person is considered art. Others contend that art must conform to a societal standard and the basis of the creation should be understood by most intellectual people. For example, some contend that computer-generated images, such as fractals, are not art due to the large role played by a computer. E.O. Wilson states “the exclusive role of the arts is to intensify aesthetic and emotional response. Works of art communicate feeling directly from mind to mind, with no intent to explain why the impact occurs” (218). A simple definition may be that art is the physical expression of the ideals formed by the mind.
