Teenagers are actually not as bad as you would think. Teenagers can be knowledgeable. They also can be very good thinkers. Caring is another profile they exhibit. Society has teenagers wrong. First, teenagers can be knowledgeable. Michael Kevin Kearney is knowledgeable because he went to college at the age of fourteen. Tanishq Abraham an 11-year-old Sacramento boy who said regular school “bored” him graduated from American River College in Sacramento. Secondly, they also can be very good thinkers. Taylor Wilson the boy who played with fusion is one example of a thinker. Another one is Kamkwamba the one who harnessed the wind. He is a thinker because he created and improved on our own windmill. Lastly, they can be caring.
The world of today is a relatively primitive one, even with every advancement that humanity has accomplished we remain primitive in this aspect. There has been progress, even as slow in comparison to that of todays, it is progress.The ignorances and other human flaws are still very existent within every society, regardless of the boundaries between them be it geographical or cultural. Stereotypes and misconceptions exist in the modern society. Stereotypes arise when there is a single radical group who are accepted as the representation of their apparent subculture. Then the ignorant and misinformed take these “representatives’” behavior as a generalization of the entire group. While the less common misconception is made by some incomprehensible anomaly where an entire assumption is based around a single social group, that has never even proved to be true. There is a stereotype that is attached with the College educated community, they are believed to be almost guaranteed success. The fact that they have a degree in their respective field has built a stereotype of the “successful ones.”
...an see, there are many reasons why children and teenagers may misbehave. They could be tired, hungry, sick or just scared of the position they're in. There could be problems at home with family, fighting, and competition, and attention seeking within society. Children are easier to understand to why they misbehave but when it comes to teenagers it’s a little ridiculous. They will make lousy decisions that can cause a rough road ahead of them all because they want to be noticed. It’s unpleasant to see what this society has come too.
1.)Stereotypes and racism have always been an issue in this and many other societies.Teenagers are commonly the most impacted by stereotypes, not unlike most teens at Point Loma High School. To further analyze this, my class read “How a Self-Fulfilling Stereotype Can Drag Down Performance” by Shankar Vedantam, a science correspondent for NPR. In his informative article, Vedantam discusses how research proves that self-fulfilling stereotypes can drag down many individuals’ performance. He supports his claim by presenting statistics such as “When black people and white people answered 10 vocabulary questions posed by a white interviewer, blacks on average answered 5.49 questions correctly and whites answered 6.33 correctly”, and talking about how black students tend to score better on tests that are administered by other blacks, and finally explaining how all students’ performance increases when they are not reminded of their race/gender before beginning a test. Vedantam’s purpose is to inform the audience about the negatives of reminding students of their race before a test in an effort to prevent poor performance and boost test scores. Upon reading this, my class has decided to carry out a research project about the stereotypes at our school, and how they affect a variety of students.
Teen pregnancy is increasing yearly. According to the March of Dimes, teenage birth rates have decreased steadily in the country since 1991. Teenage birth rates in the United States remain relatively high compared to the more developed countries.
First of all, whenever someone opens a book or magazine or turns on the television, they see a bunch of teens having fun. Immediately, because of how society sees teens, people think that the teens must be doing something wrong. Elephants are strong, smart, and have potential to do huge things.” The answer has nothing to do with the twine and the post; but it has everything to do with the twine around the elephant’s mind. The thing is, teenagers are a lot like elephants. We are strong, smart, and have incredible potential, but somehow we are held back by a tiny piece of string, held back by a lie; the lie that teenagers are rebellious, good for nothing, lazy bums. Today I am going to be talking about how this lie affects the relationship between adults and teenagers, the relationship between God and teenagers, and finally the relationships teenagers have with each other. If everybody, adults and teenagers alike, work together we can get rid of this horrible lie.
In conclusion, teens’ having the freedom of making their own choices has its down sides as well as its good sides. If someone is not able to make a decision that really was not right for them, then they would never know what it feels like and will not have the knowledge that they should not do it again. Most teens know what the right things to do are, especially when it comes to helping others, like their elders. Also, they know that they have to think about the decisions they are making and how the choice they make will affect them and those around them. There are approximately 600 students in Lorenzo Walker Technical High School. This means, about 600 teenagers chose to come to a school that would lead them on the right path. Essentially, having a wide opportunity for choices is helpful for today’s American teens.
Teenagers are still kids. So basically we have a bunch of kids having kids which is insane. Teenagers aren’t ready to be parents until they have grown up themselves. Teens aren’t able to raise a steady family, they don’t have jobs, their children won’t have fathers, and they aren’t responsible enough for that yet. They begin to be social and making new friends. After being around a certain friend for so long, they will do anything to remain friends will them. If they fail at a certain point, the teenagers start to imitate them. Then the teenagers will develop low self-esteem. That is where drugs, alcohol, tattoos and disrespect are put into effect. Amy Bobrow, of the Child Study Center at New York University School of Medicine stated in the Davis’s article, “Even fewer teens regularly use illegal substances -- less than 25% of those who try them -- which means the majority do not.” Teenagers without supervision can cause them to do plenty of horrible things such as coming in late at night, sneaking out, and illegal substance use.
The label ‘teenager’ as we know it was a concept that first arose in the 20th century. Before this there were young people in their teenage years; however there was no sub-culture or institution in place that brought them together or that helped to develop peer group cohesion on a societal scale. Whilst some worked at home, on family farms, or in factories or offices, others attended school. Some were married off or were being prepared for marriage. Teenagers didn't do that much to distinguish themselves from adults. They dressed exactly like their parents as well as having the same views and music tastes.
Teens have more pressure to be cool, and to be accepted that's what makes them rebel of do what mom or dad had always told them not to do. They may know that it is wrong but it is all about looking cool for that second, or being safe and listen to your parents. Actually, when you are faced with a situation that you know is wrong you don't think about what your parents will think until you have already completed it and there is no turning back. Then there comes the punishment. That makes the teen rebel more and do more things to be "cool" and doesn't care.
In the conclusion, I believe teenage rebellion is harmful. It can affect to any teenagers if they have nobody to teach or take care them correctly. Teenagers want to rebel because they feel like they need to understand and learn more about things that they never been through. But it can also be the fact that teens have a lot more question about adults' life or for their independent. This is a good opportunity for parents to learn and get connected with their children while they are under the state between teen and adult. Learning through the mistake or hearing from someone can help solve many problems that had in mind. Teenagers can also learn from other teens, and it is a maturation process that every teen has to go through in their life.
