What really underpins a child’s health? What is the main factor in hindering children’s health? I would like to attempt to answer these questions from studying Children’s Nursing at degree level. I consider myself an individual interested in the values and welfare of others regardless of how physically or mentally challenging the task may somewhat be.
This vocational degree appeals to me as it will allow me to gain clinical experience in a range of settings, including primary care, specialist and intensive care areas in hospital wards. I have chosen to study children’s nursing but I am looking forward to work alongside students from all four fields of nursing to study generic material. The lifespan of humanity has increased drastically due to medicine and medical practices such as nursing, because of this, it is now vital that we ensure the health and well-being of our future generation. Being motivated, able to work under pressure and interact are fundamentals as working as a nurse may involve meeting new people each. I engaged with children through outdoor activities, story time, painting and reading. The placement demonstrated the importance of team work and it was from this placement that I was able to obtain caring skills. Engaging with a mixture of children with a range of backgrounds, beliefs and personalities was fantastic as it gave me a taste into the diverse culture we live in.
