GOING OUT OF BUSINESS Sports Authority was a sporting goods franchise with over 500 locations nationwide. Sports authority is based out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and the initial purpose of the "The Sports Authority" was to bring the same idea from what megastores such as Toys R Us and Home Depot were doing and bring it to the sporting goods industry. Jack Smith was unsuccessful in his first attempt, but soon after in 1990 he got a second chance and was running eight megastores in the greater Florida area. Smith's confidence and immediate success landed him a buyer from the Kmart Corporation for $75 Million in march of that same year. In the four years following The Sports Authority grew to 100 stores nationwide. Although, throughout this success they still were losing money. When you try to make a superstore such as that of Sports Authority you try to accommodate everyone: parents, kids, singles, couples etc. But to do this you must have a very family wholesome feel. Also on top of this I've been to a Sports Authority myself and the inventory is very awful the shoe section is extremely disorganized and they are not separated by sizes and sometimes not even by the type of shoe! For me as a customer, this was not appealing and would not make me want to come back, and I personally would always choose to go to Sport Chalet over Sports Authority any day.(side note: Sport Chalet closed too). However, Sports Authority did have good products and could have easily changed there presentation and customer service to make a far better wholesome store. This store did truly have potential to persuade people to go to this store rather than shop online, but based off the reviews they had not used there potential the correct
