Introduction There is a growing concern about the mental health of social network users nowadays. With larger number of social network sites(SNSs) like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube appearing and rising levels of social media usage, social media has played a more and more important role in people’s daily life. What effects social media has on SNS users has drawn great attention from the public. The results of previous studies have showed that social media benefit users a lot on their mental health from all kinds of aspects. Under the background that large amounts of people tend to have several mental illness while few of them were discovered and get proper treatment in time. Jamil Hussain, Muhammad Afzal, Maqbool Hussain, Wajahat Ali Khan, Sungyoung Lee used classification tools to search for depressions expressed by SNS users. And it is evident that users who often express their feelings using negative words like angry, disappointed, upset, depressed etc can be more likely to suffer from mental illnesses than others. Though these findings have a comprehensive explanation from varieties of aspects on the optimistic impact, there seems to exist a common problem in all these findings that why some people won’t search help from social media though it is thought to be popular? What negative impact do social media have on SNS users?
