The marketing world is changing. The days of yellow book advertisements and mass flyer mailings are being replaced by email campaigns, and website optimization. Technological advances are enabling marketing professionals to use more specifically targeted digital channels to get their message across and email marketing is a low cost way to get your message directly to consumers. Making the prices of the newer marketing tactics far cheaper than traditional marketing. Society has changed over the past 10 years and consequently; marketing methods have adapted to suit growing trends and customer behavior.

Social media has a huge impact on the contemporary art world. Now a day we rely on social media so heavily to help promote and market our material. Every big star, musician, or artist has his or her own Facebook page, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube account. You name it, if it a way to market themselves they use it. However, they are not the only ones even small, not well known artists use all these sites to try to gain fans of their work. I have at least two musicians follow me on twitter everyday looking for you to read their bio, listen to their music and follow them back. The Internet has truly evolved over the years, and with that social media, and the way we use it. In 1996 people where not very supportive of advertising over the Internet, and now it is one of the main forms of advertising. Internet usage in 1996 was comprised of approximately 27 million. Today this number is at least 3 billion (Farley).
Social media has altered the way ideas change hands and how fast those ideas spread. News and information that would have taken days or even weeks to go from one location to another can now occur in seconds. This ease of communication has never been so available to people around the world as it is now.
Our social media network might be strong, but how about our interpersonal network, our relationships with actual people like our friends, families, classmates, teachers, bosses, etc.?
