Before Walt Disney ever came up with the idea of Snow White and The Seven dwarfs, the fairy tale was very popular in Germany (history.com). Snow White was originally written for storytelling, by the Brothers’ Grimm. The movie by Walt Disney was actually based off this movie. In 1912 a version of the fairy tale, from Germany, made its way onto Broadway. When Walt Disney was a child he heard the story of Snow White very often (pophistory.com). He saw a play when he was older about the tale and came up with the idea of making it into an animated motion picture. Before Disney came up with the idea of the movie he had his fame based off of nine minute cartoons (history.com). One of the most famous songs, “Someday My Prince Will Come”, showed everyone how to have hope, and believe that everything is going to be okay. It made sense so them because everyone was scared of the depression. It taught them that eventually everything will get better. Frank Churchill composed the song and Adriana Caselotti, Snow White, performed it. The American Film Institute nominated this song as nineteenth on the top one hundred songs in one hundred years. The premier was at Cathay Circle. Many people came; more than 30,000 people were standing outside the theater sharing the excitement. Most people weren’t able to buy a ticket because they sold out very quickly. Each ticket was five dollars and were gone in a matter of seconds after the gates opened. People started filling up the theater hours before it even started, just to make sure they got a seat. Stars like Shirley Temple, Clark Gable, and Judy Garland came to watch.
