Should Teachers Prevent School Shootings

Most people have seen police officers or soldiers carry guns with them, but have they ever seen a teacher equipped with a gun before? This is becoming a real question today. There have been many school shootings around the country. People are now debating if teachers should carry guns to prevent such shootings. Teachers should not have the ability to carry guns in the future.

First, with more guns in the school, there would be more shootings and threats. A student could easily steal a gun from a staff member and start open firing. Then, the teachers would try and stop the student and it would turn to total chaos. More lives would be lost. According to Tampa Bay Florida News, "No amount of training will prepare teachers to grab their gun and respond to a mass shooting, and the potential for deadly unintended consequences is enormous." Teachers can be mentally unstable to kill someone. The teacher may have never had training with the gun. The administrator does not know if the teacher is well trained enough to take one of her student's life. This can cause chaos if the situation gets out of hand. If a teacher does not have the ability to shoot the gun, what's the point in having in the first place! Moreover, teachers have no experience using a gun, the situation could go from teaching to violence. According to New York times, " Teachers enter their profession to teach kids, just as law enforcement officers choose to protect citizens by force if necessary." This means teachers should not carry guns because they are spending their time to teach. Some teachers may not even want to carry guns with them. They should not be forced to carry guns when they can just hide with their students without causing violence. To sum it up, a teacher is supposed to teach, not act with gun violence or kill
