What do you think that the rising controversy of teachers being armed in schools. Many people think that teachers being armed in schools is a terrific idea while others believe it is a terrible idea. There are many ideas about what is going to happen once teachers are armed. Many fear that arming teachers is the right step to securing the safety of students at school, though they fear that the teachers won’t be trained as well as other law enforcement. In some cases teachers already bring guns to school.
Many schools across the country have multiple reasons to want to arm staff members. In order for a staff member to carry or even be considered to be licensed to carry in schools they must complete 80 hours of training. This training includes use of force training, weapon proficiency, legal aspects, and first aid classes. After this training teachers have to be approved by school board and law enforcement agencies. Having a teacher carrying is more cost efficient too because for one resource officer to be on the job it is 50,000 dollars a year while it is around 68,000 dollars a year to train 13 staff members in the guns program. Donald trump stated that “we can't stop an active shooter but we can stop the carnage by giving teachers guns to help protect everyone in the school.” Most people who understand weaponry and guns have a permit carry and protect themselves and those around them. Teachers who don’t understand weaponry are less likely to get a permit to carry in schools then those staff members that do. President Trump stated that he believes that all teachers who would like to get the training to carry and protect in schools should be given the opportunity. ( Green New York Times
