Should We Keep Shakespeare In Schools After many years of being in the school curriculum is it time to kick Shakespeare to the curb? Shakespeare’s work has been taught in schools all around America for years but isn’t it about time we leave his works to shine brightly on stage instead of slowly dulling its shine by taking it and putting into classrooms. Shakespeare should not be taught in the ninth grade curriculum because it is outdated and irrelevant,should be performed and not read,and he is too hard to teach. First, Shakespeare is outdated and irrelevant to today’s kids and curriculum. How can shakespeare relate to today’s kids when Shakespeare is a “451 year-old man english white man”(Deblasis)? Though it’s good to learn about history, studying a figure from 400 years ago for 3 years is a bit much. Why continue teaching about a world 400 years ago when we can teach about the world students live in today? “Most children today don’t like him” (Robshaw). Teaching a kid who doesn’t like Shakespeare isn’t the easiest job in the world. If they were forced to learn Shakespeare they wouldn’t appreciate his work or even try to understand it. In the article “Why It’s time to Give The Bard The Heave Ho!” it states that Shakespeare is a lot to handle and manage. Not only is Shakespeare hard for students it’s also hard on the teacher as well. Shakespeare’s work is written in a different way then works nowadays. So not only does the student have to understand it, the teacher has to have a clear understanding as well. The fact that Shakespeare can be interpreted in many ways does not help in the slightest bit. With his works being so hard to teach it would be better if we let students learn his work on his own and let them interpret it in their own
